Once again a Green Flag has been raised in Ruddington’s Country Park – acknowledging our local green space as one of the very best outdoor spaces in the UK. Family and friends come to this free event to count the number of wildlife species living in our Country Park. On Sunday 3rd July, BioBlitz continues, between 10am and 5pm. BioBlitz is a fun way to find as many different type of plants and animals in the park in just one day and one night – which started yesterday evening, with the Bat walk and talk! Most villagers consider ourselves very fortunate to have over 200 acres of recreational green space right on our doorstep, at the southern edge of Ruddington. Rushcliffe Borough Council has announced that ‘unauthorised encampments’ are now banned at Ruddington’s Country Park after it successfully secured a court injunction, with power of arrest, to prevent camps being set up at some of its strategic locations. The authority presented its case before Nottinghamshire County Court yesterday (September 16th) requesting that encampments cannot be established at Rushcliffe Country Park – along with four other strategic sites it owns: Rushcliffe Arena, Gresham Park, The Hook and West Park in West Bridgford. There are concerns there may still be a hidden danger to dogs and other animals in our Country Park after slug pellets wrapped in bacon were found there. It’s especially concerning as summer weekends are a peak time for dog owners to take their pets to enjoy facilities such as Coppers’ Dog Activity Trail (pictured).
