What’s Happening with the Old Youth Centre?

If you’ve walked, cycled or driven past The Green in the last couple of days, you’ll almost certainly have noticed the metal security fencing and scaffolding just erected at Ruddington’s former Youth & Community (‘Young People’s) Centre. Originally owned and maintained by Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) it has lain empty and disused since December 2016, with the main building having to be boarded up in 2018 following repeated acts of vandalism. Former Youth Centre to Be Demolished and Replaced

The new owners of the former Youth & Community Centre on The Green – which has lain empty and disused for over four years – have revealed how they plan to bulldoze it and erect more modern facilities in its place. As we’ve previously reported, Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) bought the building from Nottinghamshire County Council in 2019. Their planned public consultation on its future was delayed by the Coronavirus outbreak. Youth Centre Trashed

Police are appealing for information after Ruddington’s former “Body Centre” was broken in to and vandalised over the weekend. The damage was reported by Ryan Charlesworth who ran the building with his wife Rachel as a fitness club and community centre for over two years until they ran into financial difficulties last December. Ryan says: “Heart breaking enough to put so much effort into the place to then lose it. To see what some vandals had done inside was disgusting. Body Centre Closure Confirmed

Attempts to save Ruddington’s dedicated health, fitness and youth centre from permanent closure appear to have failed. As previously reported on this website The Body Centre on The Green shut its doors unexpectedly on the 8th of December 2016 after running into financial difficulties. Just a few days after this sudden closure, Ryan Charlesworth gave members and users of Project Body UK‘s facilities a glimmer of hope that the business might be saved after receiving a flood of offers to help.  However it appears this has not been enough to secure the centre’s future, and he posted…

Body Centre Closes Down

Fitness fans, community and youth groups in Ruddington have been left shocked and dismayed by the sudden closure of  Project Body UK on The Green. This was the organisation selected by Nottinghamshire County Council to take over the running of the former Young Peoples’ Centre just two years’ ago – after spending cuts meant that NCC could no longer afford to run it themselves.
