Dog Poisoning Fear in Rushcliffe Country Park

There are concerns there may still be a hidden danger to dogs and other animals in our Country Park after slug pellets wrapped in bacon were found there. It’s especially concerning as summer weekends are a peak time for dog owners to take their pets to enjoy facilities such as Coppers’ Dog Activity Trail (pictured). A social media post by Rushcliffe Veterinary Centre states: “Just a word of warning, if you walk your dog on Rushcliffe Country Park, we have received notification that slug bait wrapped in bacon has/is being placed around the park.” It’s…

New ‘Phone Mast Approved

Plans to erect a fifty foot tall mobile telecommunications pole at one of our village gateways have been approved by Rushcliffe planners. They were rubber-stamped at a Borough Council meeting on Tuesday night (July 4th) after no objections to the proposals were received. The new structure will appear in the line of trees alongside the Wilford Road cycle path, by the golf course, just as it enters Ruddington. The fifteen metre high mast will support three antennae and a satellite dish, whilst “associated ground based equipment cabinets and ancillary development” is to be be constructed beside it (see diagram). 24-Hour Fuel for Ruddington?

Our village filling station could soon be open right around the clock if permission is granted by Rushcliffe planners. Ruddington Service Station at 130-132 Loughborough Road has applied for 24-hour trading. This would throw out a condition imposed on them back in 1993 that “The petrol filling station shall only be open for business between the hours of 06.30 and 22.30 Monday to Friday, 07.00 and 22.30 hours Saturday and 08.00 until 22.00 hours Sunday.” It was a restriction added out of consideration for residents in the vicinity. There was no surprise for Ruddington voters in Thursday’s General Election when Conservative heavyweight Kenneth Clarke easily retained his Rushcliffe seat – and so remains our representative at Westminster. He secured over half the vote – with a similar share to the 2015 General Election. Mark Pinks says he is “humbled” to have won the Ruddington Parish Council By-Election held to fill the vacant seat in Camelot Ward.
