Hot on the heels of the Government’s announcement that face coverings will be made compulsory on public transport in England from June 15th, Ruddington’s main bus operator has added a nifty new safety feature to its live online bus tracking. During the first full month of Ruddington’s ‘lockdown’ due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus, officers have revealed a slight increase in the level of crime around our village – despite many people being at home throughout April. Statistics published by Rushcliffe Police show the number of reported incidents in Ruddington rose from eleven in March 2020 to thirteen incidents last month – primarily burglaries and vehicle crime. Local Policing During COVID-19

There is no doubt these are challenging times for policing Ruddington’s streets – in unprecedented circumstances – because of the UK Government’s Coronavirus ‘lockdown’ which began three weeks’ ago. Officers have to decide what is reasonable and unreasonable behaviour with regard to villagers heading out ONLY for brief daily exercise, travel to their work, essential shopping or medical needs – whilst also enforcing the two metre ‘social distancing’ rule if necessary. Helen Brownett, who’s the Textile Artist & Technical Demonstrator at Ruddington’s Framework Knitters’ Museum, has designed her own version of a COVID-19 virus – and knitted it in 3D on one of the museum’s antique, circular knitting machines! Bus Fare Changes Postponed

In light of the Coronavirus pandemic, Ruddington’s main transport provider has put off all planned fare increases indefinitely. However its Navy 3 service has now been suspended whilst the frequency of its Green 10 buses to and from our village has been reduced. Nottingham City Transport says ‘unprecedented times’ – when buses should now only be used for ‘essential’ travel – prompted it to postpone the rise in fares which should have taken effect from 29th March 2020.
