Ruddington Patrols Increased Following Village Crimewave

Rushcliffe Police are reassuring householders they’ve increased their presence in Ruddington in the wake of a spate of criminal activity during the night in our village. Officers confirm several recent incidents this week – concerning interference with vehicles and burglary – mainly between 1.00am and 3.00am. Ruddington PCSO Sherrylee Sampson says: “Bladon, Camelot, Vicarage and Churchill were amongst the affected. Thefts From Cars and Burglaries Increase Village Crime Rate

After a post-lockdown ‘spike’ in April, then a ‘quieter’ month in May, June again saw an increase in Ruddington crimes reported to Rushcliffe Police. Statistics just released show there were fifteen incidents logged by officers for our village during last month – which is 50% more than in the month before. Reported Village Crime Increases Post-Lockdown

Crime statistics for Ruddington, just released by Rushcliffe Police for April 2021, show a significant rise in reported offences when compared with the first three months of this year. The end of the strictest ‘lockdown’ measures here is thought to be a contributory factor – with more people now out and about and more village premises now open for business. Figures just released for February 2021 by Rushcliffe Police show that offences in Ruddington have dropped again – to the lowest level since RUDDINGTON.info first started reporting them on a monthly basis. Helped by the latest ‘lockdown’ only FOUR crimes were recorded in the village for the whole of last month, none of them too serious. You may be pleased to hear that, just prior to the new ‘lockdown’, Ruddington enjoyed one of its ‘quietest’ months in recent history when it comes to recorded crime. After 23 incidents were reported to Rushcliffe Police during September, during all of October only 6 crimes in our village came to the attention of its officers – a drop of 74%. New figures just released show that vehicle crime was again the most prevalent problem in our village during May 2020 – even though the total number of offences logged by Rushcliffe Police was lower than the month before. During the first full month of Ruddington’s ‘lockdown’ due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus, officers have revealed a slight increase in the level of crime around our village – despite many people being at home throughout April. Statistics published by Rushcliffe Police show the number of reported incidents in Ruddington rose from eleven in March 2020 to thirteen incidents last month – primarily burglaries and vehicle crime. There is no doubt these are challenging times for policing Ruddington’s streets – in unprecedented circumstances – because of the UK Government’s Coronavirus ‘lockdown’ which began three weeks’ ago. Officers have to decide what is reasonable and unreasonable behaviour with regard to villagers heading out ONLY for brief daily exercise, travel to their work, essential shopping or medical needs – whilst also enforcing the two metre ‘social distancing’ rule if necessary.
