Ruddington’s County Candidates for 2021

Although we’ve not even reached Christmas yet, the selection of candidates who’ll battle it out in next year’s Nottinghamshire County Council elections has already begun. The vote will be taking place on May 6th 2021 with current Ruddington representative Reg Adair standing again for the Conservative Party. However, with Andrew Brown standing down after two decades due to retirement, Mr Adair’s new Conservative running mate has been announced as Matt Barney. 44 year-old Matt says: “I am truly honoured to have the opportunity to stand for my local community in next year’s election.…

New Parish Councillor Recruitment Drive

If you’re looking for a new challenge this new year – to do something which could make a positive difference to our village – Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) is currently inviting applications for new Councillors. Its new recruitment drive comes following numerous departures which, despite some Councillor co-options since, have left no less than seven vacancies on our Parish Council – which usually has 16 members. There’s currently one spare seat in Camelot Ward, three vacancies in Easthorpe Ward, two in Flawford Ward and one in Manor Ward. The areas…

Ruth Wins Rushcliffe

As Conservatives across the country celebrate their party’s landslide victory in the 2019 General Election, there was no surprise for Ruddington – with the Tories easily retaining a seat they’ve held here for the past 49 years. It was in 1970 that The Rt Hon Kenneth Clark {pictured above with Ruth} won back the Rushcliffe Constituency from Labour’s Antony Gardner – with Mr Clarke serving as our MP ever since. After deciding to step down for this election, his replacement was Welsh cyber-security expert Ruth Edwards – who will now become our local…

General Election 2019 – Our Candidates

In a UK General Election with an outcome that’s very difficult to predict, one thing is for certain: by the end of this week, Ruddington will have a new representative at Westminster! Of course, that’s because “Father of the House” and Member of Parliament for Rushcliffe for the past 49 years, The Right Honourable Kenneth Clarke, has just retired at the age of 79. At the previous election on June 8th 2017 Mr Clarke secured 30,223 Conservative votes, with Labour in second place on 22,213 and the Lib Dems third with 2,759.…

Have Your Say in Europe – and Ruddington!

Ruddingtonians are heading to the polls again this Thursday (23rd May 2019) for the second set of elections in just three weeks. This time around, of course, it’s to elect our representatives for the European Parliament – a vote that has had to be organised rather hastily within the last couple of months, after the UK failed to leave the European Union as planned. For the East Midlands region we have the chance to vote for one of eight different political parties – each fielding five candidates – or for…

Ruddington Swings To Labour

In an election outcome which may surprise many Ruddingtonians, Labour has stolen two out of the three available seats on Rushcliffe Borough Council from the Conservatives. The results from yesterday’s poll mean that Labour candidates Jen Walker and Mike Gaunt (pictured above left and centre) are duly elected to the Council for the first time – with third placed Gary Dickman (pictured right) securing the remaining seat for the Conservatives. Former Tory Councillor Martin Buckle was therefore not re-elected. The three Green Party candidates received fewer votes in total than the others,…

It’s Time to Vote!

Don’t forget, Local Government Elections are taking place in Ruddington this Thursday – with our two village Polling Stations at St Peter’s Rooms and The Village Hall open between 7am and 10pm. For newcomers to our village, the one you’ll need to use depends upon where you live – and is printed with a location map on your Poll Card. Ruddingtonians are only required to cast votes for up to three new Rushcliffe Borough Councillors this time. This is because there were more seats than candidates for Ruddington Parish Council, so that’s uncontested, and the next Nottinghamshire…

And Then There Were Four…

… That’s the number of vacancies on Ruddington Parish Council following ANOTHER resignation this week. This time it’s a Councillor who has only served for seventh months. Robin Crinage states: “I feel I am unable to carry out my role of Parish Councillor as I would want to due to my commitments.” This latest departure comes less than two weeks after no one came forward to contest empty seats in Easthorpe Ward and Manor Ward (which will now be filled by co-option) and only a week after Flawford Ward Councillor John Noble stood down,…

More Parish Council Vacancies

Ruddington Parish Council is looking for community-minded villagers to fill more of its seats after the resignation of two further councillors. The vacancies have arisen in Easthorpe Ward and Manor Ward following the departures of Marilyn Robinson and George Ellison respectively. No reasons have been given for their decisions to stand down. However it follows a raft of other councillor resignations over the past year – resulting in a contested election for one seat and others where four candidates were elected unopposed. In order for a poll to be held this time, at least…

“Save Sellors’ Playing Field”

A group of Ruddington residents is calling on Rushcliffe Borough Councillors to reject plans to build 180 houses on an area of our village Green Belt (RUD1) because it includes a covenanted recreation ground which is also registered as an Asset of Community Value. RUD1 to the west of Wilford Road, which contains the community space, is one of the sites being recommended in RBC’s latest “Local Plan Part 2: Preferred Housing Sites” document. (Please click >>HERE<< for the background). As reported on RUDDINGTON.info last week, a cabinet meeting at Rushcliffe Arena TONIGHT will provisionally decide which…
