Free Fish ‘n’ Chip Fridays for Ruddington School!

Although pupils will be able to stay in class during the Government’s new, national COVID-19 ‘lockdown’ from Thursday, the Coronavirus has already had a noticeable impact at one of our village schools this week. Other than for those entitled to free school meals, parents and guardians of children at St Peter’s Junior School have been asked to provide packed lunches for their kids after its kitchen was closed. It followed an email from the Ruddington school on Monday advising that a member of staff had tested positive for COVID-19. Although asymptomatic,…

Council to Fund Half Term School Meals

Ruddington businesses, community groups and individuals are welcoming Nottinghamshire County Council’s announcement that it will provide the necessary funding for free school meals over this half term. As we reported on Saturday, many in our village, including St Peter’s Junior School Headteacher Michael Bradley, were critical of the Government after a Commons bid to extend free school meal vouchers to holidays during the COVID-19 pandemic was rejected by MPs last week. It prompted footballer Marcus Rashford MBE to step in again with a new plea for local help from Councils and businesses.…

Back in the the spring we reported on a unique, online project by a village resident who was busy capturing the community spirit of Ruddington during the early part of the COVID-19 pandemic by photographing individual householders and families on their doorsteps or at their front windows. A Ruddington running enthusiast is celebrating successfully completing a 129 mile solo challenge this month – to raise money for a project close to his heart which works with rural churches in some of the poorest parts of Colombia. Mark Holden’s face will be familiar to regular attendees of both St Peter’s and Ruddington Baptist Churches – since he is their children, youth and family worker. However the Coronavirus pandemic has recently seen Mark furloughed – so he thought he’d use that extra time to do something positive for charity. “I wanted…

Auto Crime Dominates Ruddington Offences

New figures just released show that vehicle crime was again the most prevalent problem in our village during May 2020 – even though the total number of offences logged by Rushcliffe Police was lower than the month before. Just ten Ruddington incidents were reported to local officers during the whole of May – compared with thirteen in April. However, these statistics do not include a Nottinghamshire Police drugs raid in our village as part of ‘Operation Alaska’ on May 28th. Beat Managers supported by specialist search trained officers, a force drug dog and the…
