Council to Fund Half Term School Meals

Ruddington businesses, community groups and individuals are welcoming Nottinghamshire County Council’s announcement that it will provide the necessary funding for free school meals over this half term. As we reported on Saturday, many in our village, including St Peter’s Junior School Headteacher Michael Bradley, were critical of the Government after a Commons bid to extend free school meal vouchers to holidays during the COVID-19 pandemic was rejected by MPs last week. Big hearted Ruddington businesses, community groups and individuals are backing the appeal by footballer Marcus Rashford to provide food during the half term break for all children who’re entitled to free school meals. Back in the the spring we reported on a unique, online project by a village resident who was busy capturing the community spirit of Ruddington during the early part of the COVID-19 pandemic by photographing individual householders and families on their doorsteps or at their front windows. ‘Help My Street’ Reaches Ruddington

A new online platform – which aims to make both becoming a volunteer and requesting help in Ruddington a simple, safe and effective process – is being launched this weekend. Ruddington Building Society Branch to Shut

Mark’s ‘Run for Colombia’

A Ruddington running enthusiast is celebrating successfully completing a 129 mile solo challenge this month – to raise money for a project close to his heart which works with rural churches in some of the poorest parts of Colombia. Auto Crime Dominates Ruddington Offences

New figures just released show that vehicle crime was again the most prevalent problem in our village during May 2020 – even though the total number of offences logged by Rushcliffe Police was lower than the month before. Just ten Ruddington incidents were reported to local officers during the whole of May – compared with thirteen in April. COVID-19 Crime Figures

During the first full month of Ruddington’s ‘lockdown’ due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus, officers have revealed a slight increase in the level of crime around our village – despite many people being at home throughout April. Statistics published by Rushcliffe Police show the number of reported incidents in Ruddington rose from eleven in March 2020 to thirteen incidents last month – primarily burglaries and vehicle crime.
