As concerns about Coronavirus start to take hold across the country, already there are visible signs of how worried people in our village are about the untreatable COVID-19 strain – for which none of us has any immunity – reaching Ruddington. Ruddington Supermarket Robber Jailed

A man who was arrested and charged by Rushcliffe Police in connection with two incidents separated by just ten minutes at our two Ruddington food stores last October has been sent to prison for two and a half years. 44 year-old Keith McLachlan, who admitted robbery, attempted robbery and having a bladed article, was jailed for his offences at Nottingham Crown Court. Co-op hands over £15.6K to Local Good Causes

Ruddington’s Co-op Supermarket has today presented cheques totalling over fifteen thousand pounds to the three beneficiaries of last year’s ‘Local Community Fund’. The grand local total for the 2018/2019 ‘Big Co-op Payout’ was £15,665.20 – comprising £5610.45 for Bloomin’ Dementia (top photo), plus £4827.65 for St. Peter’s Church and £5227.10 for Friends of Rushcliffe Country Park (below). There was a scary start for Ruddington’s new-look Co-op food store today as holidaying children from our two village schools dressed up in Hallowe’en outfits for the official ‘reopening’. Pupils from James Peacock and St Peter’s Schools gathered together for a ribbon-cutting ceremony (top) which marked the end of an extensive nine week programme of works at our Church Street supermarket, costing over one million pounds. The three beneficiaries of this year’s ‘Local Community Fund’ – courtesy of shoppers at the Ruddington Co-op Supermarket – have just been announced. It’s revealed that Ruddington District Girl Guiding, NG11 Foodbank and the Together@Clifton wellbeing group will all receive cash from the new round of funding – which runs from 27th October 2019 until 24th October 2020. A man is in police custody in connection with a robbery and an attempted robbery at our village supermarkets. Rushcliffe Police report that a man entered Sainsbury’s Local on Dutton’s Hill (above) at about 5.40pm yesterday (Saturday 5 October 2019). Amazon Locker for Co-op

Ruddington will soon have its own ‘Amazon Locker’ if plans submitted on behalf of the Co-operative Food Store are given the go ahead. A design and access statement has been prepared by Bowman Riley Architects in support of a full planning application to install the new external locker at the side of Ruddington Co-op – in the Parish Council’s Church Street Car Park. Nottinghamshire Police have been at Ruddington Co-op in the aftermath of an incident which left the front window next to the cashpoint smashed. A Crime Scene Investigation team was deployed to the scene this morning to comb for clues. Following a spate of offences in which cashpoints in our region have been ripped out with farm machinery, and had their money stolen, it was at first thought this may have been a similar incident. Co-op Shoppers Raise £3k for Museum!

Staff and volunteers at Ruddington’s Framework Knitters’ Museum say they’re “delighted and astonished” to have received a donation of almost £3,000 from the Co-op Local Community Fund. Earlier in the year, their ‘Hidden Histories’ exhibition project was chosen as one of the nominated causes to receive funds from Co-op members who shop at local stores and use Co-op services in the Nottinghamshire area, including the Ruddington branch. Co-op Cashpoint Arrives

Ruddington’s promised new 24 hour cashpoint in the village centre has just been installed! Following the granting of planning permission in November there’s now an ATM in the Co-op shopfront on Church Street. For a short period, after the closure of HSBC’s branch in 2010 then Barclay’s in 2015, Ruddington was actually left without a single round-the-clock cashpoint in the village centre. Instead locals and visitors had to rely on cash-back, machines located inside Sainsbury’s or the Co-op during opening hours, or head to Loughborough Road filling station.
