Random Acts of Kindness in Ruddington

Mystery surrounds the identity of the kind-hearted benefactor, or benefactors, who’ve spread some welcome, festive cheer to numerous households in our area over the Christmas period. Envelopes marked “R.A.K. Random Act of Kindness” landed in letterboxes around Ruddington, Clifton and Silverdale – each containing £100! However the handwriting on the front appears different on some of them – suggesting perhaps more than one person was involved. On Saturday (9th December) our local “NG11 Foodbank” foodbank held its Christmas appeal in Ruddington’s Sainsbury’s and Co-op supermarkets – and they’ve hailed it a great success. Jill Reedman told us: “It was a cold, frosty morning but shoppers demonstrated the spirit of Christmas by their generous donations. Ruddington’s main bus operator says it’s looking to spread a little extra festive cheer this year by supporting a local organisation or charity which will be helping its community over the Christmas period. Nottingham City Transport, which runs Ruddington’s Navy 3 and Green 10 buses, is behind the seasonal initiative – but you will need to respond straight away! A Goat for Christmas?

The gift of a chicken, goat, sheep or cow to help families in Uganda become self-sufficient is the latest initiative from ‘The Mustard Seed Project’. This is the Ruddington fundraising group set up by James Peacock Infants School teachers Sally Squires and Jayne Henson inspired by their visit to Uganda in the Summer of 2016 which “taught us that a tiny seed can produce amazing results”. If you’re a keen runner, you may like to know that entries for next year’s Rushcliffe 10k, Fun Run – and a new 5k option – are now open! The 2018 event in Ruddington’s Country Park will be on Sunday March 4th. Ruddington’s support for our local “NG11 Foodbank” went one step further this month – becoming Ruddington Sainsbury’s “Local Charity of the Year”. Shoppers voted online and in store for a choice of three shortlisted local charities, to become the shop’s nominated charity partner for the next 12 months.
