A Ruddington resident who did her first fundraising challenge last summer to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK is encouraging other villagers to do likewise this year. Rebecca Thompson (pictured top with her dad) wanted to take part in ‘Swim15’ because bowel cancer runs in her family. Kids’ Holiday Reading Challenge

With our ‘schools out for summer’, village children aged 4 to 11 are now being invited to get involved with this year’s ‘Summer Reading Challenge’ at Ruddington Library. The aim is to read six books or more between now and September 4th. The 2022 Challenge has been developed by The Reading Agency in partnership with The Science Museum Group. Now that ‘flaming June’ is here, can you do one wild thing a day throughout the whole of the month? Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust believes you can! Whilst its monthly ‘Rushcliffe Country Park Wildlife Watch Group’ was put on hold last year, due to COVID-19 concerns, it is planning an autumn programme at Rushcliffe Country Park this year – which is set to commence from the second Saturday in September. Two village scoutmasters are undertaking some major fundraising challenges this year in the hope of raising enough money to replace their leaky, old asbestos roof.
