Roadworks Disruption Set to Worsen

Ruddington residents and businesses are being warned that existing roadworks, coupled with additional highways work which is soon to begin in and near our village, means traffic delays and disruption are likely to get even worse over the coming months.

As previously reported, the over-running major project to reshape one of our busiest junctions at the Loughborough Road/Kirk Lane/Flawforth Lane crossroads is now set to continue with four-way temporary traffic signals until Friday 8th November – some sixteen months since work first began.

Flawforth Lane will be closed again for two months this summer

Not only that, it’s planned that Flawforth Lane (pictured above) will be closed again for two months from Monday 29th July to Friday 20th September 2024.  As well as this stoppage meaning a long way around for through-traffic, the residents and businesses along Flawforth Lane, Flawforth Avenue and the new Blacksmith’s Green estate will once more be faced with a considerable detour via the A60 and A52 to access their properties to and from Loughborough Road or our village centre, as shown below.

This closure will return for another eight weeks!

However, even sooner than that, another road closure a little further down Loughborough Road is set to inconvenience drivers trying to get between Ruddington and Keyworth.

Signage in Bradmore (header photo) confirms that the top of Pendock Lane will be completely closed to traffic for eight weeks from this Monday (8th July 2024) whilst a new roundabout is constructed at its junction with Loughborough Road.  The A60 itself will have two-way temporary traffic signals in use. This new roundabout is part of the S278 highways agreement with developers for permission to build hundreds of new homes in Keyworth – which it’s anticipated will make this junction even busier.

Whilst this work is ongoing, the diversionary route for drivers wishing to get to Keyworth or Bradmore Garden Centre is via Keyworth Lane, as shown below:

Traffic will be diverted between 8th July & 30th August 2024

From 2nd September to 8th October 2024 Pendock Lane will then reopen – but with three-way temporary traffic lights in use at the remodelled junction until the roundabout work is completed.

Other significant highway work which is likely to cause disruption in and around Ruddington during the next couple of months is listed below:-

Mon 15th & Tue 16th July from 9.30am to 3.30pm – stop/go boards during “core sampling” on Clifton Road and Clifton Lane; to determine road and pavement condition – Nottinghamshire County Council Highways.

New signs (above) indicate that this is to be followed by major resurfacing works here during October, to address the considerable pothole problem previously reported, however no dates have been set for these as yet.

8am on Mon 15th July to 5pm on Wed 17th Julyclosure of Parkyns Street to through traffic – Utility Repair and Maintenance Works by Severn Trent Water.

Parkyns Street will be closed for two days this month

8am on Monday 22nd July until 5pm on Wednesday 24th Julytwo way temporary signals on B680 Wilford Road adjacent to Wilwell Cottage – new service connection by Severn Trent from the water main to the Roots Allotments site under construction – with a temporary 30MPH speed limit in force on the approaches.

Looking further ahead…

As we previously reported, following a number of gas leaks in recent years needing emergency repairsCadent Gas also needs to carry out substantial further work on Wilford Road to replace the troublesome old iron gas main under ‘Dutton’s Hill’ with a “more durable” plastic pipe. However, this has been postponed by VIA East Midlands until other disruptive work in Ruddington is finished… meaning it’s now likely not to be carried out until late in 2024.

More work like this at Dutton’s Hill is expected to be announced soon

Also for later in 2024, National Highways has previously announced the long planned major roadworks to enlarge both the Nottingham Knight Island and Wheatcroft Island on the A52 should begin in earnest this September.  Find more details >>HERE<<.

Residents and visitors should anticipate delays and diversions for motorists, and also disruption for passengers using Kinchbus 9Nottingham City Transport’s Navy 3 & Green 10/10C/10X buses and the NottsBus Connect Service 863 during these roadworks.
