On 1st June 2018, trustees and volunteers for Ruddington based charity The Mustard Seed Project (Uganda) waved goodbye to a 40 foot container which was crammed full of items that were sourced and donated to send to Uganda. Ruddington’s Mustard Seed Project has revealed it’s made a four figure sum from its latest fundraiser – and then some! The charity – which secures funds to provide clean water, food and an education for children in Teso, Uganda – held its second ‘Knickers for Knowledge Fashion Show’ at St Peter’s School in our village last night (Friday 9th March) asking for donations of new knickers, a bra or a child’s book from those who attended. 2018 is certainly shaping up to be a big year for Ruddington’s Mustard Seed Project! As regular readers will know, this is the fundraising group set up by James Peacock Infants School teachers Sally Squires and Jayne Henson inspired by their visit to Uganda in the Summer of 2016. The gift of a chicken, goat, sheep or cow to help families in Uganda become self-sufficient is the latest initiative from ‘The Mustard Seed Project’.  This is the Ruddington fundraising group set up by James Peacock Infants School teachers Sally Squires and Jayne Henson inspired by their visit to Uganda in the Summer of 2016 which “taught us that a tiny seed can produce amazing results”. For a rather different and special Christmas present the village-based charity is now offering people the chance to donate anything between £5 and £100 to help Ugandan families living on…

Next month Ruddington’s James Peacock School marks its 50th anniversary of moving to its current location in Manor Park. The new buildings replaced the original “free school” built in 1875 on the corner of Asher Lane and The Green (now Adlard Print) that had become too small for our growing village. To celebrate its half century the school is holding a “Community Celebration Day” on Saturday the 30th of September between 1pm and 5pm.
