Rushcliffe Police are urging Ruddington residents to be on their guard after an elderly householder was targeted by a thief yesterday morning (Friday 24 August). The incident happened just before 10am at the home of a 92-year old woman in Elms Close. A man entered her house under the premise of carrying out works nearby and needing to access a stop-tap under the resident’s kitchen sink in order to prevent an explosion. Whilst inside the property the man stole a purse and a quantity of cash. The offender is described as…

Travellers Evicted – Again – Finally!
First of all, it was due to be at 8 o’clock this morning (Monday 13th August) – a time which quickly slipped to 3pm due to enforcement availability issues. Then, when Bailiffs arrived at Sellors’ Playing Field for the planned eviction this afternoon, they were informed that some of the men (and hence their vehicles to tow the caravans off with) were working in Peterborough! Almost another six mickey-taking hours later, with Police, Bailiffs and Council officials all having been left hanging in limbo to see them off the site and…
Read MoreThe Travellers Return!
Local residents and park users could only look on in disbelief this lunchtime as the welcome return of the rain coincided with some probably less welcome members of the travelling community casually letting themselves back onto Sellors’ Playing Field and setting up camp again. It’s just one month since a group of travellers – which adjacent householders told us they thought were mostly the same people as this time – were evicted from the same site after breaking into the Ruddington recreation ground at the start of July. On that…
Read MorePlant Pot Fire Features in July Crime Stats!
Ruddington residents might find it quite reassuring – although perhaps a little bizarre – that a blazing plant pot was one of just eleven recorded crimes in our village during the whole of July. The offences reported over this 31 day summer period also included three burglaries and five other thefts. The full list kindly supplied to us by Rushcliffe Police is below: 2nd Theft of two bikes by breaking into locked shed in Distillery Street 3rd Vehicle taking fuel without making payment at Esso Station…

Families from the travelling community, who unexpectedly made Ruddington their home recently, have now officially been told to leave. Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) says an eviction notice was served upon the travellers today by the legal services firm it has employed to handle this matter. As we reported last week, a procession of caravans and vehicles rolled onto Sellors’ Recreation Ground off Wilford Road on Thursday teatime (5th July) after the intruders simply lifted the access gate (right) off its hinges to let themselves in! This came as quite a shock…

Our village is now home to families from the travelling community – after they gained access to Sellors Playing Field and moved their caravans and vehicles onto the recreation ground yesterday (Thursday) teatime. It seems the unexpected visitors managed to lift the locked metal access gate off Wilford Road from its hinges at one side and haul it open to enable them to get in and set up their encampment. It happened just as members of Impact Fitness were setting up for their evening “bootcamp” there. Having first been driven around, one…

A man arrested on suspicion of stealing cooking oil from Gino’s Italian Restaurant in Ruddington just before Christmas has been convicted at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on two charges of theft. Rushcliffe Police released a CCTV image (right) of the person they believed to be responsible after one of the incidents at the rear of the Church Street premises at 5.05am on Thursday 27th December 2017. The man found guilty of the used oil thefts is 52 year-old Errol Kus from Grantham. Mr Kus was given a conditional discharge of six months for both offences.…
Read MoreDrop in Reported Crime During May
Although of no consolation to those who were targeted, most Ruddington residents and traders will be relieved to hear there’s been a slight reduction in reported crime during the past month. Rushcliffe Police have listed just 16 offences in our village – down from 20 the month before. In total there were five burglaries, two vehicles stolen and four thefts from vehicles – with the rest of the incidents relating to criminal damage, anti-social behaviour (ASB) and drug use. Two of those on the list are ones we have reported on previously –…

Police are investigating after a new restaurant & café-bar in Ruddington, which only began trading in March, was raided by thieves over the weekend. “Apotheka”, at 6 Wilford Road, was broken into early on Sunday morning, with a quantity of cash and drinks stolen. The venue is now run by Jack Robson – who originally worked for McArtney’s Catering before buying out the company in 2015 and then acquiring the former “Bar Six” business from John Noble and Lucy Would in November last year. Jack says the criminals struck at about a quarter past…
