An ambitious railway reconnection project to allow trains from Ruddington to once again run all the way to Leicester is now another step closer to achieving its goal. The Great Central Railway (GCR) has just submitted a planning application to Charnwood Borough Council to continue with the next stages of its ‘Reunification Scheme’ for which permission is required. Revised Pub Plans Published
As anticipated, a new planning application with a slightly scaled down extension to an historic Ruddington public house has been submitted to Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). It’s after original plans revealed in July, to substantially expand The Frame Breakers at the corner of High Street and Kirk Lane, received a negative reaction from some villagers and Ruddington Parish Council and so were withdrawn even before being put in front of the authority’s planning committee for consideration. Originally a three storey side extension with two storey side and rear extension to the existing building was proposed. Whilst many…

One of Ruddington’s less well known retail areas is set to be demolished for housing – after the owner revealed the site has been running at a loss. It seems the Coronavirus outbreak finally sealed its fate! Eight separate businesses are currently being accommodated in the tucked away courtyard at the far end of Kempson Street – created almost ten years ago in an L-shaped block of units that were originally intended to be used as workshops. However, some of these have since been refurbished and let out as both…

Jane Hallam’s ‘Hair Flair’ salon is thought now to be the village’s oldest hairdresses and has been at 25A Easthorpe Street for around half a century. Mrs Hallam has rented the unit for the last twenty five years, since she took over the business. It’s a successful and popular salon used by many people from our village and beyond –…
