School Cycling Route Plans in Jeopardy

Campaigners fear their hopes for a designated cycleway from Ruddington to Rushcliffe School may have been dashed by the failure of the County Council to secure over £300,000 of cash earmarked for such schemes. Pedals Nottingham Cycle Campaign says it’s dismayed that Nottinghamshire County Council achieved just 46% of its potential funding from The Government’s Emergency Active Travel Fund – designed to improve cycling and pedestrian provision for residents to have a safe alternative to public transport in light of the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. Ruddington Schoolchildren Go That Extra “Daily Mile”

Pupils at a village school have launched their own dedicated daily exercise routine “The Daily Mile” in a bid to beat obesity and improve their health and well-being. Children from St Peter’s C of E Junior School on Ashworth Avenue are now endeavouring to devote fifteen minutes of every school day to a short run or walk which will help increase their volume of exercise and, experts say, improve their physical, social, emotional and mental health. The annual “Summer Reading Challenge” is taking place during the school holidays at Ruddington Library – and it starts TODAY. The initiative, run by The Reading Agency, is aimed at 4 to 11 year-olds. The challenge is to read six or more library books between now and September 9th. It’s hoped that children who take part will become more enthusiastic about reading, maintain their reading level over the holidays and return to school keen and ready to learn. Ruddington Railway Fundraiser gives £1.35K to Charity

A High Speed Train 40th anniversary event at Ruddington’s Great Central Railway has raised £1,350 for charity. Railway Children was presented with a cheque yesterday (Tuesday 6th December) by fundraisers from the 125 Group, the Great Central Railway (Nottingham) and East Midlands Trains. The cash was raised at a special event that took place at the Heritage Centre on the 19th of November where a visiting East Midlands Trains HST ran throughout the day to mark its 40th anniversary. A “Summer Reading Challenge” is taking place during the school holidays at Ruddington Library. The challenge, aimed at 4 to 11 year-olds, is to read six or more books over the summer.
