Church’s Fundraising Milestone for Ugandan School

St Peter’s Church in Ruddington is celebrating raising £6000 to allow the completion of a four-classroom block for a school in an impoverished area of Uganda. The target was achieved by a mixture of donations and fundraising events over a ten-month period, culminating in a Beetle Drive event in the church at the end of January 2024 which raised £763. Reprieve for Ruddington’s Remaining Green Belt?

A new document which has just been published (January 2023) seems to indicate that further large swathes of Ruddington’s surrounding countryside will not be required for more development within the next 15 years. As part of the ‘Greater Nottingham Strategic Plan: Preferred Approach Consultation’ being undertaken by the Greater Nottinghamshire Planning Partnership (GNPP), Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) has not allocated any further Ruddington Green Belt for housing or commercial use within ‘Appendix A: Preferred Sites (Rushcliffe Borough)’ between now and 2038. This latest photo from the Teso Region of Eastern Uganda shows how a classroom building project is moving forward nicely despite the problems of COVID-19 both in the UK and equatorial Africa. The project to provide a High School for children in Aminit is supported by St Peter’s Church and represents the second secondary school that they have been involved in building in Uganda over the last 15 years. The name of a contractor building new homes in our village has recently become “mud” for some residents and traders on a Ruddington estate! HTC Construction is currently erecting the first half-dozen houses of its “Lace Gardens” development – which will eventually see 28 new homes put up at the corner of Brookside Road and Woodhouse Gardens.
