One of the many attractions at Ruddington’s three day Village Christmas Market this year was a pop-up stall on the Saturday which was run by 1st Ruddington Scouts. Keen to raise funds themselves for their many activities, in the months before the event many Beavers, Scouts and Cubs had spent time making glass decorations and other items to sell on the day – some of which are pictured below. MoD 40th Anniversary Celebration
This Sunday, 30th July, Ruddington is marking the 40th anniversary of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) vacating the area of our village which is now home to the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre and Rushcliffe Country Park. The Mere Way site is holding a day of recollection via photographs, guided walks, artefacts and visiting ex military vehicles, some of which were originally sold at the Ruddington sales. This week marks another major milestone for 1st Ruddington Scouts – as the they celebrate their 80th birthday. The group actually came into existence during World War II – launching on 12th July 1943. Since then, as Ruddington’s population has grown, its membership has gone up substantially – with three Beaver Colonies, three Cub Packs and two Scout Troops, numbering over 130 young people in all. Now, three hundred years on, Nottinghamshire Masons are putting on a ‘Community Fun Day’ in the Old Market Square to mark the milestone. A couple who’ve lived in Ruddington for 27 years renewed their vows on Saturday at St Peter’s Church. It was to coincide with Mandy and Ian Baker’s 28th wedding anniversary. The service was attended by close family and friends – after which the couple were driven away in a vintage vehicle for drinks and to cut their extra-special anniversary cake.
