A weekend of parking prohibition along Mere Way, a morning of temporary traffic lights on High Street and a further complete closure of Dutton’s Hill are among the scheduled works liable to cause disruption over the coming days and weeks in and around Ruddington.
Firstly, during all of the weekend Saturday and Sunday 14th and 15th May, and again on Saturday 21st May, many motorists who use Mere Way to park up whilst visiting Rushcliffe Country Park or Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre will not be able to do so. Most of the parking will be coned off to allow the removal of Portakabins by lorries from local premises – which need the extra width to pass safely along Mere Way. See the map and further details below.*
Also on Sunday 15th May, Via East Midlands will be working outside Classic Cuts on High Street to replace the lighting column which spectacularly burst into flames, then wilted to the ground, due to an electrical fault last year. It’s planned that 3-way temporary lights will control traffic along High Street during most of the morning whilst the stump is removed and a new column put in its place.
If you normally access Ruddington via the B680 Wilford Road, beware there will be cabling work on Thursday 26th May requiring three way signals at its junction with Nottingham South & Wilford Industrial Estate Road, outside Vernon House. However, this should be restricted to the early hours of the morning.
Finally, for motorists who were dismayed to hear that Wilford Road will need to be closed again for a week in July at Dutton’s Hill (outside the SPAR shop) to facilitate further gas main repair work by Cadent, it seems this closure has been reduced to just one day. It’s now set to take place on Sunday 3rd July only. It follows a two week emergency closure in the same place last November. This caused major traffic chaos and also a significant loss of trade for many village centre businesses. Being on a Sunday, this time it will not affect CT4N Services 22 & 23 or Nottingham City Transport’s Navy 3 buses.
