A man has been arrested after police spotted and followed a car which was suspected of being stolen.
Officers from Nottinghamshire Police’s operational support unit noticed that a Vauxhall Astra, which was travelling in the Clifton area during the early hours of yesterday (Saturday 1 October 2022), was displaying false number plates.
The driver then tried to evade police and failed to stop. A short time later the car came to a halt in Village Road and a man was detained.
Police checks revealed the vehicle had been stolen from Ruddington in August.
A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and possession of cannabis.
Police Constable Anna Fisher, of Nottinghamshire Police, says: “This was a really great bit of proactive police work. We understand the significant impact vehicle theft can have on victims, both in terms of the financial impact and also how being without a vehicle can disrupt their daily activities.”
She adds: “I’m pleased our officers acted swiftly to make this arrest and I hope it warns others who commit crime in Nottinghamshire that we will catch them and ensure they are appropriately dealt with.”
