Back in April we reported that Rushcliffe Borough Council had rejected plans to build 175 new homes on our Green Belt north of Asher Lane. The proposals (above) were lodged by land owners Space Foods Ltd in January after a previous application for 250 houses on the same site was withdrawn two years earlier. Following last week’s important public meeting on the future of Ruddington’s Green Belt in St Peter’s Rooms, Ruddington Parish Council has just published its own views – objecting to TWO of the proposed housing sites and also to the increased allocation of homes for our village. Ruddington’s rural perimeter is now threatened with around 410 new homes  – that’s 64% more properties than first proposed. The latest consultation, starting TODAY, is on the suitability of the remaining FOUR out of thirteen Green Belt sites originally earmarked by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) in their revised Local Plan for future housing development. A group of Ruddington residents is calling on Rushcliffe Borough Councillors to reject plans to build 180 houses on an area of our village Green Belt (RUD1) because it includes a covenanted recreation ground which is also registered as an Asset of Community Value. Green Belt Gateways to Go?

It’s been revealed that key Rushcliffe Borough Councillors will decide at a meeting NEXT WEEK which sites in Ruddington will be removed from our Green Belt – in order to accommodate over FOUR HUNDRED new homes. This follows years of deliberation and two public consultations by the council – in 2016 and earlier this year – when villagers were invited to identify preferred sites out of the 14 proposed for Green Belt development. Ruddington Parish Councillors have voted in favour of recommending  just ONE additional site for potential Green Belt homes – off the A60 Mere Way roundabout (pictured). Village residents concerned about possible large new housing developments on Ruddington’s Green Belt are reminded that they must have their say by 5pm this Friday, the 31st of March 2017. Following last year’s public consultation, a further FOUR sites where new housing developments might be built in Ruddington have been identified by Rushcliffe Borough Council.
