Rushcliffe Borough Council has launched a new survey asking if locals and visitors would like to see a dedicated café at Ruddington’s Country Park. It wants you to have YOUR say on whether you think it’s a good idea – AND whether you’d use it? Since 2015 the council has been working with Friends of Rushcliffe Country Park (FoRCP), Franklin Ellis Architects and The University of Nottingham on a proposal to refurbish and upgrade the existing building – and perhaps to extend it to create a permanent new café. This follows a previous public consultation by Friends of Rushcliffe Country Park held there last September…

Compulsory Parking Fees Introduced
If you’re visiting Ruddington’s Country Park this weekend here’s a timely reminder that you must now pay to park – or face a fine. Despite the largely negative public reaction to the proposed introduction of compulsory car parking charges – as we reported here on RUDDINGTON.info in February – Rushcliffe Borough Council has gone ahead with the mandatory £1 fee this month. Previously the £1 parking charge was by voluntary donation – meaning that some visitors chose not to pay it. Making parking charges compulsory is expected to raise an additional £20,000 in annual income for the cash-strapped council –…
Read MoreVillage Plan Out Soon
It’s been announced that another milestone will be reached this summer with the publication of the final Ruddington Village Plan – your vision for how our village should develop over the next 5 to 10 years. Originally begun in 2013, the Village Plan has been painstakingly formulated by an independent steering group made up of around twenty volunteers who live and/or work in Ruddington alongside up to three Ruddington Parish Council representatives. Supported throughout the process by staff from Rural Community Action Nottinghamshire, it’s been created based on the issues and concerns that were raised by a detailed questionnaire delivered to all village households…
Read MoreFlawforth Lane Closure Expected to be June
A postponed road closure on one of Ruddington’s key access routes now won’t happen until the summer say Nottinghamshire County Council. Revised dates given to roadworks.org indicated that it had been rescheduled to begin next Monday, the 13th of March. But Ruddington Parish Council has advised us that the work has been moved back yet again! A revised schedule now indicates the 5th of June to the 28th of July is most likely. Originally the closure was due to start on Monday 6th February but the improvements were put on hold until roadworks nearby on the A52 and the delayed…

It seems there has been a largely negative reaction so far to the planned introduction of compulsory car parking charges at our country park this June – even though it will still only cost us a pound! Currently the £1 parking fee is by voluntary donation – meaning that some visitors choose not to pay it. The same noticeboard suggests that regular users contribute £20 per year. Making parking charges mandatory is expected to raise an additional £20,000 in income for Rushcliffe Borough Council – who voted for the change at a meeting in December. Rushcliffe Country…
Read MorePowder Panic Apology
Ruddington social media went into a bit of a frenzy at the weekend when piles of mysterious white powder appeared around our village centre! Speculation was rife as to who might be responsible and why – and even whether the unidentified substance may be harmful to our pets and wildlife. After our appeal for information on Twitter @RUDDINGTON_info the mystery was solved by Kaye Chem. She discerned the trail had been laid by Quorn Hash House Harriers (QH3) who “…belong to the worldwide phenomenon of Hashing and run/walk for fun in the Nottingham-Derby-Leicester area following a…
Read MoreMore Woodland for our Country Park
After an unsuccessful application to The Woodland Trust to enable more tree planting at Rushcliffe Country Park a local company has now stepped in to help. The Nottingham Post reports that Artex Ltd has contributed £5,000 to allow an area about the size of a football pitch to be fenced off and for woodland to be created for future generations. They’ve also bought a water bowser and will be supplying volunteers to help with the planting and upkeep. Park manager Keith Laing says: “We put the project on hold when we were…
