Dismay at Dangerous Drivers

Villagers are up in arms about the large number of motorists flouting a current four-day road closure in Ruddington. As we reported last week, Clifton Road was shut to through-traffic yesterday (Monday) to allow major resurfacing work which is needed to repair damage caused by a burst water main earlier this month. Despite the icy conditions, and the fact that the old road surface was removed yesterday, eyewitnesses say numerous drivers are simply disregarding the closure by mounting the kerb and either driving along the pavement or going up on…

A Further Four Day Road Closure

Village residents are being warned there’s more disruption ahead for drivers when one of Ruddington’s busiest roads is closed again for major repairs. Earlier this month Clifton Road was shut to traffic for 24 hours after Severn Trent Water workmen turned up to fix a burst water main on a Sunday (January 10th 2021) but there was no one available to fill in the hole and patch the road until the next day. Now highways officials have decided the already well-worn stretch of road needs major attention, following this latest…

The Beast is Back!

Ruddingtonians awoke to another blanket of snow this morning – as the effects of the so-called “Beast from the East #2” were felt across the area. Early casualties were yesterday’s Ruddington Village FC fixture against Awsworth Villa FC at Elms Park and today’s Stroke Association ‘Resolution Run’ at Rushcliffe Country Park – both of which were postponed yesterday, anticipating the icy conditions. Then this morning’s Rushcliffe Junior Parkrun was cancelled due to the snow and ice. Despite this, roads around our village have remained largely open and passable with care…

“The Beast” Hits Ruddington!

After having escaped the worst impacts of the bad weather sweeping the UK earlier this week, Ruddington has seen the heaviest snowfall of the winter during the past 24 hours – thanks to the effects of the so-called “Beast From The East”. Villagers awoke to a blanket of around three inches of drifting snow this morning – accompanied by icy north-easterly winds. Driving conditions were treacherous for a while, however Nottingham City Transport has so far managed to maintain a near-normal service on our Navy 3 and Green 10 buses…

Snowtime!

With just two weeks to go until Christmas Eve, Ruddington was turned into a winter wonderland today – as shown by this slideshow of village photographs posted to our social media sites:- Our thanks to everyone who shared a snowy photo. As you can see, there was quite a lot of dog walking going on! Although Ruddington was not affected as badly as many parts of the region it was certainly enough to put many people into a festive mood – especially as the snow fell on a Sunday. Despite…
