New Village Festival & Open Gardens Planned

If you’ve lived in Ruddington for a little while, you may remember ‘Open Gardens’ events being organised in our village? In the summers of 2016 and 2018 these were staged in aid of Save the Children and Action for Children and proved a big hit with villagers and visitors alike. New Footbridge Opens

Allotment holders at Hareham Gardens in Ruddington are celebrating the completion of their new footbridge. It spans a brook and provides a step-free route between the two halves of the site – which houses a total of 62 plots. It needed to be suitable for wheelchair users – whilst the adults with learning difficulties who are supported by the THERA Trust to grow crops on one of the plots needed safe access to get between the car park and their plot. A Ruddington allotment holder has been rewarded for all her hard work – not only with the fruit, vegetables and flowers she’s grown, but also with a special trophy. Susie Moore has received the award for Hareham Gardens Best Allotment 2021, and is pictured (above) receiving it from Robin Crinage – the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at The James Peacock Bread Charity. Green Light for New Footbridge

Trustees at Hareham Gardens Allotments have received the go-ahead to build a new bridge across their brook. It’s welcome news for the many gardeners who use it, since the current wooden bridge linking the 62 plots (pictured above with Plot 4 in the background) has begun to rot, leading to fears it may soon become unsafe. It’s set to be replaced with a ‘long-life’ concrete bridge. Welcome to Our ‘New’ Willow

It’s now ten months since ‘Storm Ciara’ battered Ruddington from the early hours of one Sunday morning (9th February 2020) with gusts of up to 60mph during the day – accompanied by a period of torrential rain – causing structural damage to village properties and felling or breaking several of our large trees. Open Gardens Raises over £2K for Children’s Charities

Organisers are celebrating the success of last weekend’s “Ruddington Open Gardens” – after the final tally revealed that £2280 was raised for kids’ charities! This total will be split between Save the Children and Action for Children. Over 400 people bought the special programmes and enjoyed perfect weather for the biennial event on Saturday the 23rd and Sunday 24th June – when 14 village gardens and allotments were opened to the public.
