Don’t forget, Local Government Elections are taking place in Ruddington this Thursday – with our two village Polling Stations at St Peter’s Rooms and The Village Hall open between 7am and 10pm. Ruddington Parish Council is looking for community-minded villagers to fill more of its seats after the resignation of two further councillors. The vacancies have arisen in Easthorpe Ward and Manor Ward following the departures of Marilyn Robinson and George Ellison respectively. No reasons have been given for their decisions to stand down. However it follows a raft of other councillor resignations over the past year – resulting in a contested election for one seat and others where four candidates were elected unopposed. A group of Ruddington residents is calling on Rushcliffe Borough Councillors to reject plans to build 180 houses on an area of our village Green Belt (RUD1) because it includes a covenanted recreation ground which is also registered as an Asset of Community Value. There was no surprise for Ruddington voters in Thursday’s General Election when Conservative heavyweight Kenneth Clarke easily retained his Rushcliffe seat – and so remains our representative at Westminster. He secured over half the vote – with a similar share to the 2015 General Election.
