A Ruddington running enthusiast is celebrating successfully completing a 129 mile solo challenge this month – to raise money for a project close to his heart which works with rural churches in some of the poorest parts of Colombia. Mark Holden’s face will be familiar to regular attendees of both St Peter’s and Ruddington Baptist Churches – since he is their children, youth and family worker. However the Coronavirus pandemic has recently seen Mark furloughed – so he thought he’d use that extra time to do something positive for charity. “I wanted…

Ruddington Marketing Boss Makes Headway for Charity
A Ruddington digital marketing expert has raised money for a charity in crisis after moving her training sessions online. Shamshad Walker started collecting cash for Headway Nottingham after hearing it was in difficulties. She moved her training sessions online after the COVID-19 pandemic hit and has been asking delegates to donate money to the local charity instead of taking the money herself. The online workshops she offers include advice on developing marketing plans, blog writing and how to use social media more effectively. She has so far raised £500 for Headway…
Read MoreWhat’s Happening at The Hospice Shop?
Among the recent ‘lockdown easing’ activity on Ruddington High Street you may have noticed the complete clearout of the Nottinghamshire Hospice Charity Shop at Number 10. The now (almost) empty unit has led to speculation that the popular village retailer is a victim of the Government’s restrictions due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. On March 23rd new emergency rules forced all non essential businesses – including our three village charity shops – to cease trading until further notice. However, RUDDINGTON.info is pleased to reveal that the sudden disappearance of stock is for…

The government ‘lockdown’ at the end of March to try to keep us safe and slow the spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus now seems to be working. However the hardship it’s causing has resulted in several new community initiatives here in Ruddington to help those who’re most in need. The latest of these is the St Peter’s Junior School Foodbank – which has been set up just this week to support families from both Ruddington schools who are finding it difficult to feed themselves due to a loss of income. Some…

If you’re missing your regular journeys on Ruddington’s Navy 3 or Green 10 buses during the COVID-19 Coronavirus lockdown, Nottingham City Transport’s “Buster” is inviting you to write a bus related tale or poem for possible inclusion in a brand new book. The short story writing competition is open to children and adults in five age categories. So how about composing one inspired by a #RuddyGoodDayOut? NCT plans to publish a bus-themed storybook full of their favourite submissions this autumn, in aid of charity, and it’d be great to see Ruddington included!…
Read MoreCan YOU Help NG11 Foodbank?
With stocks of certain essential items still hard to find at Ruddington’s supermarkets due to the recent wave of Coronavirus induced panic buying, our local food bank is appealing for more donations at a time when the demand for it is growing. Although the Government has pledged financial help for those now unable to work during the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, at least in the short term more people are having to turn to food banks – because they can no longer afford to feed their families or buy them…
Read MoreEar Foundation To Close
After over 30 years of helping to transform deaf people’s lives, and providing opportunities for people with hearing loss, The Ear Foundation has announced that sadly it will be closing this Friday. The charitable organisation is well known in Ruddington for running free walk-in hearing aid clinics each month at St Peter’s Rooms – where it’s long provided hearing aid maintenance, advice and support within our village to NHS hearing aid users. However its clinic here on February 24th has turned out to be the last – at least for now. ‘Hear…

Amazingly, when our next Ruddington Village Market takes place this February, it will be marking one year since its launch! Hosted by The White Horse Inn, in partnership with the now award-winning Ruddington Village Centre Partnership (RVCP) team, the event has since firmly established itself on many people’s lists of essential things do in the area each month. Organisers gave themselves a well deserved rest this January – to prepare for the big, first birthday market on Saturday February 1st 2020. We’re promised music, entertainment, prizes and birthday specials in addition to all…

As eco-friendly initiatives in our village gather momentum into 2020, January sees “The Great Big Ruddington Clothes Swap”. It is being run by community-minded High Street business The Bottle Top in conjunction with The Co-op. It will begin with a week of donations of unwanted quality women’s clothes, shoes and accessories, for which you will receive vouchers. Then there’s a Sunday afternoon event at St Peter’s Rooms where you can use these vouchers to “buy” other people’s items. Any stock that’s left over after this event will be donated to…

Did you know that our village’s newest charity shop now has a new face at the helm? Stephanie Reed took over as the manager of Ruddington’s Children’s Society branch late last year. The fundraising outlet on the corner of High Street and Easthorpe Street first opened its doors in March 2018. The charity is pleased to report that, since then, it has had a good response for donations and is now able stand on its own two feet with stock mostly donated by local people. Money raised at The Children’s Society’s shop here in Ruddington…
