Painting Pictures in Our Park
The Visitor Centre at Rushcliffe Country Park was the venue for another recent gathering on Rushcliffe Social Prescribing team’s ‘Friendship Calendar’ – aimed at engaging with local people to tackle social isolation. Rushcliffe Borough Council‘s ‘Reach Rushcliffe’ initiative funded this free session in Ruddington last month, which was attended by over a dozen people. They learnt tips on how to paint using watercolours whilst meeting like-minded people and, hopefully, making some lasting friendships. The biennial charity event returns! Ruddington Open Gardens 2024 is on Saturday and Sunday 1st and 2nd June from 2pm until 6pm – so make sure you’ve got your ticket. You can visit around a dozen gardens, as well as allotments and other green spaces, around the village. Live music is planned on both afternoons at Ruddington Methodist Church where there’ll be games and you can also purchase plants to preserves, see Art and flower demos and more. As plans progress for the 2022 ‘Ruddington Open Gardens’ weekend, organisers are now seeking villagers who’d be able and willing to open their gardens to others in support of two children’s charities. As before, all proceeds from the event on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd July will be split between Save the Children and Action for Children. Back in the summers of 2016 and 2018 the Open Gardens proved a great success, with an impressive £2280 raised for the two charities.
