Schools’ Jubilee Jamboree!

With events being held throughout Ruddington to mark The Queen’s 70 years on the throne, our two village schools wanted to make sure their pupils didn’t miss out because of the holiday.

As an end of term treat, on Friday (27th May), children from both James Peacock Infant School and St Peter’s Junior School got together to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. In glorious sunshine, the youngsters all gathered in the grounds of St Peter’s School on Ashworth Avenue – dressed either as royalty or in red, white and blue.

After Dame Elizabeth Fradd (the Deputy Lord Lieutenant – pictured below left) officially opened their right Royal event – the pupils then took part in various activities, arts and crafts and enjoyed a picnic. The afternoon ended with a grand parade around the school playing field.

Mr Bradley

St Peter’s Headteacher, Michael Bradley, says: “It was wonderful to see both Ruddington schools come together to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Although we are two individual schools, we serve one community and are united in the belief that we are stronger when we work together. There’s no better way to do this than with a collaborative event marking such a historic milestone. It was a fantastic afternoon which I’m sure the children of James Peacock and St Peter’s will remember for many years to come.”

He adds: “I would like to thank Lisa Allcock, Jen Fowlie and Julie Matthews who did an amazing job organising the event on behalf of both schools.”

Mrs Cutts

Earlier in the day, Ruddington residents waved at the young pupils from James Peacock School as they made their way from Manor Park to Ashworth Avenue, dressed in red, white and blue, to join our older village kids there. Acting Headteacher of James Peacock School, Hannah Cutts, says: “It was an incredible opportunity for our children to be part of such a significant historical event. James Peacock and St Peter’s will continue to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee after half term with a special art project. We look forward to sharing this with the community when it is complete.”

At the event, pupils from both schools also received a Government provided book and a commemorative bookmark as mementos of the occasion. Please keep checking back here at RUDDINGTON.info for further news about our village schools.
