Ruddington’s Local Election Candidates

With just a fortnight left before we go to the polls on 4th May 2023, all the candidates standing for election here in Ruddington have now been revealed.

Once again, villagers will not be asked to vote for any Ruddington Parish Councillors since, disappointingly, only 13 residents put themselves forward for the 16 available seats. These Councillors have already been ‘duly elected’ by the Returning Officer, without a contest. It’s hoped the vacant Parish Council seats – one in Flawford Ward and two in Manor Ward – can be filled by co-option in due course.

However, seven candidates have put themselves forward for the three available Ruddington seats on Rushcliffe Borough Council. In alphabetical order they are:

  • ATACK, Ben – Local Conservatives
  • DICKMAN, Gary Dane – Local Conservatives
  • FLETCHER, Graham George – Labour Party
  • GAUNT, Mike – Labour Party
  • KEMP, Andrew – Local Conservatives
  • NICHOLSON-COLE, David Anthony – Green Party
  • WALKER, Jen – Labour Party

These prospective Councillors have been leafleting around Ruddington in recent weeks – trying to canvass villagers’ support for their policies and pledges. You can vote for just three of them.

In-person voting at either Ruddington Village Hall (top) or St Peter’s Rooms (below) – depending upon where you live in our village – will take place on Thursday 4th May from 7am to 10pm. Your Polling Card will advise you which one.

Please remember, for these elections, as well as needing to be registered to vote to receive a Polling Card, you will also need to have an accepted form of ‘photo ID’ ready to take and show on the day when voting in person.

Forms of acceptable photo ID, which can be used for this include:
• Current Passport
• Driving licence (including provisional licence)
• Blue Badge
• Certain concessionary travel cards
• Identity card with PASS mark (Proof of Age Standards Scheme)
• Biometric Immigration document
• Defence identity card
• Certain national identity cards

If you don’t have any of these forms of ID, you can apply for a free Voter ID document known as a ‘Voter Authority Certificate’ by completing an online form at gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-to-vote. However the deadline to do this is fast approaching – next Tuesday, April 25th.

The deadline to apply to vote by post instead has already passed. However you have until 5pm on Tuesday 25th April 2023 to apply to vote by proxy.

“May the 4th be with you!”
