Ruddington’s Summer Roadworks

Whilst our schools are out for the big holiday it’s hoped less traffic will mean fewer delays for Ruddington’s long-suffering motorists. However, there are some scheduled roadworks going on which will inevitably still cause inconvenience and longer journey times.

First up, St John’s Road (pictured above) – a popular Ruddington shortcut – is closed to traffic from July 24th to 28th for National Grid work (as shown below), therefore motorists from Wilford Road will need to travel via the village centre to get into the estate or out onto Loughborough Road, and vice-versa.*

Five months of highway improvements to alleviate the daily traffic queues at the Kirk Lane/Loughborough Road/Flawforth Lane traffic lights have already begun – to add extra turning lanes at this increasingly busy crossroads. These considerably overdue works finally started during the second, third and fourth weekends in July, with preparatory work by National Grid, which will continue with another week of work in September.***

Alongside this electricity work, the further package of agreed improvements will continue when different parties undertake their respective works – which VIA East Midlands says have been co-ordinated to minimise disruption to road users through until the anticipated completion date in November 2023.

Next up, it’s been revealed there’ll be water main pipe replacement work by Severn Trent at this junction, from Monday 14th until Saturday 19th August, with 24-hour 2-way temporary traffic lights controlling traffic all week.**
