Ruddington Roadworks Resume

The very welcome, festive respite for Ruddington’s long suffering residents and motorists – especially for those wanting to get in and out of our village at ‘rush hour’ – is now at an end.

Since lengthy junction layout improvements and new utility installations at the Kirk Lane/Loughborough Road/Flawforth Lane crossroads began in July 2023, they have caused significant frustration, with long, peak-time delays for drivers and bus passengers; most recently due to months of temporary 4-way temporary signals for pipe-laying by Severn Trent Water.

Unfortunately, this major work resumes this Monday 8th January 2024, beginning with three weeks of telecoms cable re-routing by Virgin Media ahead of the junction layout changes (see below), with 4-way temporary signals back in use until Friday 26th January.

National Highways is also now preparing for its long-planned, major roadworks to enlarge both the Nottingham Knight Island and Wheatcroft Island on the A52 in September 2024. To this end, the southbound exit of the Nottingham Knight roundabout onto the the A60 Loughborough Road will have 2-way temporary traffic signals from 8.00pm until 6.00am on Thursday 18th JanuaryFriday 19th January and Monday 22nd January 2024 to allow lane closures for ‘ground investigation survey works’.

These two sets of works have pushed back the previously announced closure of Flawforth Lane until Monday 5th February – which will now continue right the way through until Friday 26th April 2024 for Cadent Gas to divert utilities. The last time Flawforth Lane was closed for this long the new Blacksmith’s Green housing development didn’t even exist – so now even more Ruddington residents will have a long detour to drive into our village centre. The only ‘silver lining’ is that the 4-way temporary traffic lights at the junction will become only 3-way, hopefully easing the Loughborough Road/Kirk Lane traffic queues a little.

Other major highway work of which we are currently aware, which is likely to cause disruption in Ruddington in the months ahead, is listed below:-

And there’s more…

As we previously reported, following a number of gas leaks in recent years, including one recently needing more emergency repairsCadent Gas also needs to carry out substantial further work on Wilford Road to replace the troublesome old iron gas main under ‘Dutton’s Hill’ with a “more durable” plastic pipe. However, this has been postponed by VIA East Midlands until other disruptive work in Ruddington is finished… meaning it’s now likely to be carried out sometime mid-2024.

More work like this at Dutton’s Hill is expected to be announced after Easter

Residents and visitors should anticipate delays and diversions for motorists, and also disruption for passengers using Kinchbus 9Nottingham City Transport’s Navy 3 & Green 10/10C/10X buses and the NottsBus Connect Service 863 during these roadworks.

RUDDINGTON.info will aim to bring you details of additional or rescheduled village roadworks as and when we receive them.
