Adopt a Flower Bed!

An imaginative volunteering idea has been unveiled by a Ruddington tourist attraction aiming to get all generations involved at its village centre heritage site.

The Framework Knitters’ Museum on Chapel Street has launched a campaign to find two ‘green fingered’ families over the summer holidays. Those chosen will adopt a flower bed, in the museum’s gardens, and be given British cottage flowers to tend to once a week throughout June, July and August. Families will also explore and identify the type of plants and flowers, how best to care for them, their benefits, measuring them on a chart and watering the museum’s garden.

Framework Knitters' Museum LogoThe museum is inviting families of up to eight people to apply to volunteer for one hour a week at a time that suits them, between 11am – 4pm on Wednesdays to Saturdays or 1.30pm to 4pm on Sundays. It says refreshments will be provided.

“This campaign has been designed to target families that are looking to spend quality time together, by getting outside and having some fun” explains Sarah Godfrey, the creative and commercial manager at the Framework Knitters’ Museum. “We’re always on the lookout for volunteers and this is the perfect opportunity for those who have limited time or don’t have a garden and are keen to show their children the benefits of gardening, as well as volunteering. We’ll be selecting two families to help us this summer and successful applicants will be contacted directly in the first week in June. The best of luck to everyone who enters!”

The museum’s recruitment campaign runs from Friday 5th May, and families can apply via an entry form which can be collected at the front desk of the museum on Chapel Street. Forms can then be returned in person, by post or by emailing office@frameworkknittersmuseum.org.uk by the deadline of Wednesday 31st May.
