Statistics released on crimes reported in Ruddington through the festive period suggest that even many law-breakers were enjoying a Christmas break this year! Figures for last month from Rushcliffe Police show there were only fifteen reported offences in our village – ranging from criminal damage, to racial abuse, to the non-payment of a bill by guests at The Cottage Hotel. Fly-Tippers Strike Again!

Despite the good news from Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) last Thursday that individuals who allegedly dumped fridges on an A52 lay-by close to Wheatcroft Island – and were suspected of being responsible for dozens of other fly-tips around Ruddington this year – had had their vehicle seized (pictured below), a similar incident has now happened again just a few hundred yards away! Rushcliffe Borough Council is warning that the illegal dumping of waste on our streets or in our countryside will not be tolerated – with heavy fines and court bills for anyone identified doing it. Pram Theft Among Latest Ruddington Crimes!

One of the most bizarre crimes revealed in Ruddington during the past month was a pram stolen from just outside a resident’s house. On the 27th of November, Cat Pickup reported the unusual theft from her property on Churchill Drive via social media. She said: “It was outside my door. He would’ve had to walk down my drive to get it! Nottinghamshire Police have been at Ruddington Co-op in the aftermath of an incident which left the front window next to the cashpoint smashed. A Crime Scene Investigation team was deployed to the scene this morning to comb for clues. Following a spate of offences in which cashpoints in our region have been ripped out with farm machinery, and had their money stolen, it was at first thought this may have been a similar incident. Musters Road Burglars Jailed

Two men have been put in prison for a combined 12 years and four months following a string of house burglaries across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire. One of these was a break-in at a house in Musters Road here in Ruddington on March 12th this year. Ashley Simpson, 32, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to 18 counts of burglary. Timothy Wilson, 34, formerly of Woodfield Road in Nottingham, pleaded guilty to 10 counts of burglary, two counts of attempted burglary and two counts of theft. After Sellors’ Recreation Ground twice became a temporary home to members of the travelling community over the summer the latest Ruddington encampment is at the other end of our village. SIX caravans rolled into the Visitor Car Park in Rushcliffe Country Park at around 10am this morning (Monday 1st October) and parallel parked near to the exit. Fuel Thefts Dominate August Crime Stats

Rushcliffe Police report that, but for the continuing problems of drive-offs from Ruddington Service Station, last month would have been a very quiet month indeed for crime in our village. The figures are revealed in the Force’s statistics for August, just released. Out of just eleven reported offences during last month in Ruddington, five of them were motorists driving off from the Loughborough Road filling station without making payment. Interestingly, however, police have again excluded the four day return of travellers to Sellors’ Field in the middle of the month…
