The King’s Cat Calendar

Just when you thought Ruddington’s famous feline couldn’t achieve any more notoriety, Wilbur the Cat now has his very own calendar!

It’s certainly been a busy year for Wilbur – starting over the summer when some of The King of Ruddington‘s subjects decided to throw him a Tenth Birthday Party! Although it seems our nomadic and nonchalant village pussycat has been largely oblivious to his global fame throughout (not even showing up for his own birthday bash in July) this hasn’t stopped thousands of Wilbur worshippers, here and around the world, celebrating on his behalf.

If you’re not quite up to speed about all that’s been going on (!?) you can read some of the background >>HERE<<.

Lesley with Wilbur at Nottingham Building Society

Now, Lesley Harper and the staff at one of his favourite haunts, The Nottingham Building Society have created a 2020 Calendar in his honour! It features month by month photographs of our ‘community cat’ and will help raise money for the 1st Ruddington Scouts – towards their ongoing appeal to fix a leaky Scout Hut roof. The ageing building off Ashworth Avenue accommodates around 120 young people aged 6 to 14 across Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

Dan Clifford {“Falcon”}, who is a leader at the Beaver Scout colony, told RUDDINGTON.info: “Our Scout Hut roof is over 30 years old and can no longer be patched up. Every time it rains we lose about a quarter of our floor space in the main hall; which seriously impacts on the fun the kids are having. We’ve also got leaks around our equipment store potentially endangering our valuable camping equipment.”

If you’d like to buy your very own, fundraising Wilbur Calendar, in time for the new year, it’s being sold for a suggested donation of £4 whilst stocks last. You can pop in to the Ruddington branch of the building society at 3-5 High Street or give them a call on 0115 910 2503.

Wilbur will be asleep all January! 😉
