New Pentecostal Church for Ruddington

The original timing for announcing the launch of a brand new type of worship in Ruddington was rather unfortunate, to say the least. It was back in February 2020 – just a month before the COVID-19 ‘lockdown’! Edwalton-based ‘The Rock Church’ managed to host only ONE of its Pentecostal-style services in St Peter’s Rooms before further plans had to be put on hold due to the virus. Undeterred, its members returned to our village last summer, led by Ruddington’s new ‘Location Pastor’ Cathy Appelbee (famously the owner of Wilbur the Cat), for a further ‘trial’…

New Ruddington Defibrillator

As our village population continues to grow, so does the need for potentially life-saving yellow and green boxes in close proximity which are available to our community 24 hours a day. In the past few years, as well as inside various Ruddington premises and on standby for public events, several publicly accessible automated external defibrillators (AEDs) have been installed at locations around our village. Now there’s another one – on the wall of the Old Chapel belonging to The Framework Knitters’ Museum down Chapel Street. It’s just been unveiled by electrician David Selby…

Rock Revived in Ruddington!

Almost three and a half years’ ago we reported how Christian worshippers in our village would soon have another option – when Edwalton based ‘The Rock Church’ announced it would be holding monthly services in Ruddington. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 ‘lockdown’ in March 2020 dictated that its first service in St Peter’s Rooms (pictured top) would also be its last … until now, that is. The local Pentecostal church, founded in 2010 and pioneered by husband and wife team pastors Alistair and Kate Kent, has announced the return of its “authentic, vibrant, charismatic church” to Ruddington with…

Ruddington’s Jubilee Banner

The impressive result of months of planning and knitting was revealed today – as Ruddington prepares to celebrate the long Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend in style. The finished, knitted banner was hoisted up outside The Framework Knitters’ Museum on Chapel Street this lunchtime (Friday 27th May), watched by onlookers – some of whom are actually featured within the stitching of the giant artwork created by textile artist Marie Jones! You can watch our video of the very first, momentous raising of the new village banner below. As previously reported, Marie was commissioned…

Wilbur’s Tenth Birthday Bash!

Surely by now you must have heard that Ruddington’s legendary Wilbur The Cat is having a HUGE tenth birthday party? If not, you can catch up on his rise to global stardom>>HEREHEREHERE {Top photo courtesy of The Frame Breakers}

Ruth Wins Rushcliffe

As Conservatives across the country celebrate their party’s landslide victory in the 2019 General Election, there was no surprise for Ruddington – with the Tories easily retaining a seat they’ve held here for the past 49 years. It was in 1970 that The Rt Hon Kenneth Clark {pictured above with Ruth} won back the Rushcliffe Constituency from Labour’s Antony Gardner – with Mr Clarke serving as our MP ever since. After deciding to step down for this election, his replacement was Welsh cyber-security expert Ruth Edwards – who will now become our local…

The King’s Cat Calendar

Just when you thought Ruddington’s famous feline couldn’t achieve any more notoriety, Wilbur the Cat now has his very own calendar! It’s certainly been a busy year for Wilbur – starting over the summer when some of The King of Ruddington‘s subjects decided to throw him a Tenth Birthday Party! Although it seems our nomadic and nonchalant village pussycat has been largely oblivious to his global fame throughout (not even showing up for his own birthday bash in July) this hasn’t stopped thousands of Wilbur worshippers, here and around the world, celebrating…

Wilbur’s Tenth Birthday in Pictures

Ruddington residents and other Wilbur fans from further afield turned out in force at the Frame Breakers’ pub tonight to celebrate our favourite feline’s tenth birthday! Here are some of our photos of the event… …predictably with no appearance whatsoever from its elusive star. Despite this, everyone seemed to have a great time – and the sun shone down! If you have more pictures of our village cat’s special celebration you’d like to share with us, please post them to the Ruddington Facebook page or respond to the Tweet below… Ruddington Community…

Worldwide Wilbur – Village Cat Goes Global!

Last weekend we told you how Ruddington’s Wilbur the Cat had taken to social media and issued villagers with an invitation to his tenth birthday party next month. Since then, it seems the fame of our village’s favourite feline has spread right around the world! You can read more about Wilbur >>HERE<<. As well as RUDDINGTON.info spreading the news last Saturday of his special celebration, the idea of a ‘cat party’ also caught the attention of national news media, leading to an initial call from the BBC to Wilbur’s ‘publicist’ Nicola Burton! Nicola…

A Party Fit for a King!

One of Ruddington’s most popular residents is set to celebrate his tenth birthday in style – thanks to two of his favourite village centre haunts. The now rather infamous Wilbur The Cat even has his own Facebook page “Wilbur – King of Ruddington” – and is also on Instagram – so that he may communicate directly with his subjects and to enable his many fans to cat-alogue his adventures! Wilbur is arguably one of the most loved and photographed felines in the country now, due to his penchant for visiting our local traders…
