James Peacock – Class of 1967?

Next month Ruddington’s James Peacock School marks its 50th anniversary of moving to its current location in Manor Park. The new buildings replaced the original “free school” built in 1875 on the corner of Asher Lane and The Green (now Adlard Print) that had become too small for our growing village. To celebrate its half century the school is holding a “Community Celebration Day” on Saturday the 30th of September between 1pm and 5pm. ‘The Mustard Seed Project’ is a Ruddington fundraising group set up by James Peacock Infants School teachers Sally Squires and Jayne Henson. It was inspired by their visit to Uganda in the Summer of 2016 which “taught us that a tiny seed can produce amazing results”. Their aims are to raise funds to provide clean water, food and an education for children in Teso, Uganda, by bringing the local community together in fundraising for, and establishing links with, the community and schools in Teso. Ruddington’s Doris Day

As the full force of Storm Doris subsides, Ruddington residents and businesses are checking and repairing the damage in her wake. Fences and trees were blown over, garden furniture tossed between properties, and wheelie bins upturned. Thankfully there are no reports of anyone getting hurt locally. However things could have been very much worse had children not already been in their classes at St Peter’s Junior School at the height of the storm this morning when a large, mature tree was felled by the high winds and blocked the entrance.
