Play Area Virus Danger

With another spell of fine weather forecast, Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) is reminding parents and guardians that ALL its play areas are CLOSED until further notice due to the Coronavirus lockdown. These are at Elms Park, Sellors’ Playing Field (above), Vicarage Lane Playing Field (below) and St Mary’s Community Park. Although taking your kids out for daily exercise is encouraged, RPC says: “There have been reports that parents are allowing their children to play on the equipment and play areas. Please can everyone observe social distancing.” In fairness, there is currently a distinct lack…

Remote Meditation in Ruddington

Ruddington resident Jakki Pritchard is already well known in our village for her regular Mindfulness courses in the Old Chapel of the Framework Knitters’ Museum. Sadly the outbreak of COVID-19 Coronavirus reaching our shores, and the resulting lockdown across the UK to try to prevent its spread, means it’s very uncertain when such group activities might be able to resume. However, Jakki’s main concern right now is for people’s state of mind whilst confined to their homes – especially if living alone. She’s particularly worried for the elderly and vulnerable…

#DistanceDancing in Ruddington

A Ruddington family of four have decided to spread some cheer to our village – and hopefully way beyond – for everyone who’s feeling glum during the current COVID-19 Coronavirus lockdown. It’s in the form of a video featuring their extended family, friends and neighbours – and utilizes a ‘home grown’ cover version the Take That song ‘New Day’ as its soundtrack, performed by Rielly Newbold. The woman behind it, Connie Baker explains: “We were sitting in the kitchen on Monday morning feeling a bit down after not being able to see…

Please Keep Your Social Distance!

When socialising, handshakes and friendly hugs are such a normal part of most Ruddingtonians’ lives, the seismic shift required in most aspects of our daily behaviour during the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic is certainly creating some challenges. Until a few weeks’ ago no one even knew what ‘social distancing’ was, yet humans across the planet are now being required to do it – to minimise the risk of them becoming infected or infecting others. The seriousness of the situation was reflected in Boris Johnson’s shutdown – then lockdown – of our everyday…

Ruddington Businesses Still at Your Service!

Boris Johnson’s Monday night announcement that all high street shops selling ‘non-essential’ goods must stop trading straight away, as part of the Government’s ever tightening controls to contain the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic, has obviously had a huge extra impact on our normally thriving village. Our pubs, cafés and restaurants had already been forced to close last Friday – but some initially launched takeaway menus. Even with the latest movement restrictions, the Government says selling takeaway food is still acceptable so long as social distancing measures are in place. However, most…

Ruddington – PLEASE STAY AT HOME!

We are now experiencing the most dramatic change to village life in living memory as part of the global fight against the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus. In a move that would have been unthinkable here just weeks ago, the latest UK Government announcement says that, from today (Tuesday 24th March), we should now all remain in our homes other than for buying food, health reasons or essential work. This restriction will last for at least three weeks and is to be enforceable by law – including through fines and…

Post Office Remains Open for Key Services

Ruddington Post Office will continue to open – on weekday mornings – to help out residents and businesses still requiring its main services during the current COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. Following the Prime Minister’s announcement that all high street shops selling non-essential goods must stop trading straight away, as part of the Government’s fight to contain the virus, initially the business had decided to close as well – “to help the lockdown” – with essential services being offered only by appointment. However, postmaster Soham Patel tells us: “We have decided to slightly change our arrangement to accommodate…

Ruddington Play Area Closed by Coronavirus

Rushcliffe Borough Council has has now sealed off the play area at Rushcliffe Country Park until further notice. The closure – which came into force at 3pm today (Monday 23rd March) – is in light of the rapid spread of the potentially lethal COVID-19 Coronavirus across our region. The new restriction is in line with the latest central government attempts to reduce the transmission of the virus. It’s thought the Council’s sudden decision may have been prompted by visitors flocking to our Country Park over a sunny, spring weekend – with…
