Ruddington’s historic Framework Knitters’ Museum has announced it has a new Curator. Jim Grevatte is taking over the management role during exciting times for our village heritage site – which very recently secured Heritage Lottery Funding for its future expansion plans. Framework Knitters’ Museum wins National Lottery Funding

Ruddington’s Framework Knitters’ Museum has received initial National Lottery support for a new project called ‘A Right Good Yarn’. Made possible by National Lottery players, the project aims to expand the museum into an adjacent property called ‘Gunn Cottage’, purchased in 2013, and redevelop the existing space. The monies will also allow vital conservation and renovation works to take place. Time to Celebrate 50 Years

Ruddington Village Museum is celebrating its half century this month – by putting on a very special anniversary display. ‘50 Objects from 50 Years’ is a new one-day exhibition coming to St Peter’s Rooms, showing off unusual and rarely seen artefacts from the museum’s collection. It will feature fifty items, each representing a year of the museum’s collecting history. Ruddington’s Big Knitted Scarf!

Given Ruddington’s famous framework knitting heritage, what better way to showcase our village to the world than by displaying a giant knitted scarf created by its residents on a circular sock knitting machine dating from 1860? Horrors of the Holocaust

This month Ruddington remembers The Holocaust… The liberation of Auschwitz occurred on 27th January 1945 and this day is now commemorated each year with International Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD). HMD remembers not just the millions of victims of the Nazis during World War II but also the victims of later genocides in Rwanda, Bosnia, Darfur and Cambodia. Former DIY Shop Plans Approved

Two rather striking new buildings WILL be built in Ruddington after a revised state-of-the-art scheme for a former DIY shop site was finally given the go-ahead by Rushcliffe planners. It’s third time lucky for the contemporary designs after two previous submissions in a similar style were rejected. New Lectern for Ruddington’s War Heroes

Parish Councillors have resolved to remember those from our village who died serving our country with a new lectern at Ruddington’s War Memorial. It will replace the one already there (pictured top) and will be a “Roll of Honour” to those who fell during the First and Second World Wars and in Korea. The proposal was put forward because the names carved on the War Memorial itself are still difficult to read despite the restoration work that was carried out in 2013. Eagle eyed shoppers will have noticed that our Sainsbury’s Local on Dutton’s Hill is up for auction – well, the building, at least! This week a yellow sign has appeared which seems to signal a very definite end to the Grices of Ruddington legacy at 12/14 Wilford Road – where the family first began trading back in 1909.
