Ruddington’s historic Framework Knitters’ Museum has announced it has a new Curator. Jim Grevatte is taking over the management role during exciting times for our village heritage site – which very recently secured Heritage Lottery Funding for its future expansion plans. Having been in post for just two years, departing Curator Nicola Wood has left for a new job at Canalside Heritage Centre in Beeston Rylands as full time manager. FKM Trustee Faye Stenson comments: “We’d like to thank Nicola for the huge amount she’s achieved for our museum and wish her all the…

Framework Knitters’ Museum wins National Lottery Funding
Ruddington’s Framework Knitters’ Museum has received initial National Lottery support for a new project called ‘A Right Good Yarn’. Made possible by National Lottery players, the project aims to expand the museum into an adjacent property called ‘Gunn Cottage’, purchased in 2013, and redevelop the existing space. The monies will also allow vital conservation and renovation works to take place. Development funding of £114,300 has been awarded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to help the Framework Knitters’ Museum progress plans to apply for a full National Lottery grant at…

Ruddington Village Museum is celebrating its half century this month – by putting on a very special anniversary display. ‘50 Objects from 50 Years’ is a new one-day exhibition coming to St Peter’s Rooms, showing off unusual and rarely seen artefacts from the museum’s collection. It will feature fifty items, each representing a year of the museum’s collecting history. The display will comprise unusual and rarely seen exhibits – many of them historically tied to Ruddington, and most of them donated by local families. Organisers promise this event is therefore set to…
Read MoreRuddington’s Big Knitted Scarf!
Given Ruddington’s famous framework knitting heritage, what better way to showcase our village to the world than by displaying a giant knitted scarf created by its residents on a circular sock knitting machine dating from 1860? At least, that’s what Framework Knitters’ Museum assistant Helen Brownett thought when she came up with the idea! Helen says: “I do make quite a few scarves for the different events we have around the museum, to string up across the buildings and in the workshops. So ‘a scarf along the street’ came into…

…that’s the aim of Ruddington’s multi-award winning Framework Knitters’ Museum – which has just reopened for its 2018 season. This nationally renowned heritage site is a true gem for us to have at the heart of our village. But the success of the popular and historic tourist attraction does rely very heavily on volunteers – and this is where they’re hoping villagers with a little spare time on their hands may come forward to help. They’re currently asking for potential recruits to get in touch – with a chance to make…

This month Ruddington remembers The Holocaust… The liberation of Auschwitz occurred on 27th January 1945 and this day is now commemorated each year with International Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD). HMD remembers not just the millions of victims of the Nazis during World War II but also the victims of later genocides in Rwanda, Bosnia, Darfur and Cambodia. Ruddington Parish Council is going to mark HMD this year with a display in St Peter’s Rooms which will be available to view from Monday 22nd January 2018 until Saturday 27th January during normal Parish Office opening…

Two rather striking new buildings WILL be built in Ruddington after a revised state-of-the-art scheme for a former DIY shop site was finally given the go-ahead by Rushcliffe planners. It’s third time lucky for the contemporary designs after two previous submissions in a similar style were rejected. Permission was originally refused primarily on the basis of “an over-intensive development of the site” and “poor design that fails to take the opportunities available for improving the character and quality of an area and the way it functions”. H.A. Bostock ceased trading at 70 Wilford Road in…

The Framework Knitters’ Museum has ambitious plans to redevelop and expand its Ruddington site. It’s applying for Heritage Lottery funding to help achieve this, and an important part of this process is gathering the views of the community. So the popular Nottinghamshire tourist attraction is giving us chance to have our say NOW to help shape its future plans in the form of a ten minute online survey – which can be accessed via the link below: http://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/3F4UH/ The survey needs to be filled in by Monday the 14th of…

Parish Councillors have resolved to remember those from our village who died serving our country with a new lectern at Ruddington’s War Memorial. It will replace the one already there (pictured top) and will be a “Roll of Honour” to those who fell during the First and Second World Wars and in Korea. The proposal was put forward because the names carved on the War Memorial itself are still difficult to read despite the restoration work that was carried out in 2013. In addition, the current lectern in the War Memorial Garden which acknowledges Nottinghamshire…

Eagle eyed shoppers will have noticed that our Sainsbury’s Local on Dutton’s Hill is up for auction – well, the building, at least! This week a yellow sign has appeared which seems to signal a very definite end to the Grices of Ruddington legacy at 12/14 Wilford Road – where the family first began trading back in 1909. (You can read more about the history >>HERE<<.) In recent memory the business had sold furniture – then specialised purely in electrical goods and kitchen appliances – with brothers Tony and Steven Grice continuing the historic family firm started by Reuben Grice (senior) all those years ago. But,…
