Ruddington businesses, community groups and individuals are welcoming Nottinghamshire County Council’s announcement that it will provide the necessary funding for free school meals over this half term. With stocks of certain essential items still hard to find at Ruddington’s supermarkets due to the recent wave of Coronavirus induced panic buying, our local food bank is appealing for more donations at a time when the demand for it is growing. Over the years, the Ruddington community have provided incredible support for the NG11 Foodbank, with gifts of food and toiletries made to donation points across the village. In the last year alone, for example, Co-op shoppers donated almost 2000kg of food; the children of James Peacock School collected nearly 200kg for their Harvest Festival; and recently, Sainsbury’s have been donating their surplus fresh and baked produce for next-day distribution. On Saturday (9th December) our local “NG11 Foodbank” foodbank held its Christmas appeal in Ruddington’s Sainsbury’s and Co-op supermarkets – and they’ve hailed it a great success. Ruddington’s support for our local “NG11 Foodbank” went one step further this month – becoming Ruddington Sainsbury’s “Local Charity of the Year”. Shoppers voted online and in store for a choice of three shortlisted local charities, to become the shop’s nominated charity partner for the next 12 months.
