After an especially busy build-up to the festive celebrations in our village this year, now that COVID-19 restrictions are well behind us, Christmas Day 2022 is finally here… with those ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’ only just beginning. The team at RUDDINGTON.info would like to take this opportunity to wish all our readers, contributors and valued village advertisers the full compliments of the season. Without you, our truly local community website would not exist, so we thank you for your continuing support. We’d also like to share this slideshow of some…

Ruddington Christmas Light Trail Returns
Villagers certainly seemed to have pulled out all the stops this year to get into the festive spirit – with properties throughout Ruddington adorned with colourful lights and decorations ready to guide in Santa and his reindeer on the big day. Their efforts are being applauded by The Friends of James Peacock Junior School who’ve created a brand new ‘Christmas Light Trail’ running between now and 4th January 2023. One of the organisers, Nathalie Mortimer, says: “Further to the success of our Christmas lights trail two years’ ago, it’s back with a sparkle! Local…

After the ‘lockdown’ Christmas of 2020, and the rather restrained festive season of 2021, Ruddington’s celebrations in 2022 look as if they might just be the biggest and best ever! That’s certainly the case for this weekend’s ‘Ruddington Christmas Market’ (on Saturday December 3rd) which, as previously reported, will comprise over a hundred indoor and outdoor stalls of food, drink and gifts, two covered pop-up bars and stages of live music, and children’s activities. Now organised by Ruddington Village Community Partnership (RVCP) it will take place along both High Street and Church Street (road closures…

Ruddington businesses are helping families to get into the Hallowe’en mood this weekend with their very own ‘Trick or Treat’ trail around our village centre. Co-ordinated by Alex Preston of The Bottle Top (pictured), this Saturday’s event (29th October 2022) has been organised as a safe and fun way for our village youngsters to fill up their baskets and buckets. Alex explains: “23 Ruddington traders have bags of sweets and treats ready for you to collect. Look out for the posters in participating shop windows – or pop in to collect a list…

A Ruddington based nature group, run by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, is inviting more village children aged between 8 and 12 to get involved with its monthly sessions. Leader Geoff East from the Trust says: “Nature is a human need – central to the quality of our most fundamental needs, as well as our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. If society is serious about supporting green initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change, we need to find ways in which we can all contribute. We must ask ourselves how…

As December begins, for most of us the festive season ahead is likely to be a rather different affair to the one we’d normally be able to enjoy. Even if Ruddington drops from Tier 3 to Tier 2 in mid-December, followed by the Government’s promised five days of even looser COVID-19 restrictions over Christmas, the threat of Coronavirus will still be looming large over everything we do. However, a number of ‘low risk’ activities and initiatives are taking place this month in our village to try to get Ruddingtonians into…

In the midst of a second Coronavirus ‘lockdown’ it does seem many villagers are putting up their Christmas decorations rather early this year. If you’ve already trimmed up around the outside of your house – or plan to do so quite soon – The Friends of James Peacock School would love to hear from you right now! They’re calling on all residents who wish to get into the festive spirit to take part in the ‘Ruddington Christmas Lights Trail’. Sarah Beardsley says: “Friends of James Peacock School would like to…

Do you realise it’s now a year since Ruddington’s Co-op was officially relaunched by village schoolchildren wearing spooky, Hallowe’en attire, following its extensive refurbishment? Whilst such public gatherings are not being encouraged during these strange, COVID-19 times, the Church Street store is marking the milestone with a challenge local youngsters can complete on their own or with their families. Gwen Eyre, Co-op Member Pioneer for Ruddington says: “To celebrate the first anniversary of the restyled Co-op store here in Ruddington we are holding a Hallowe’en competition. We are inviting EVERYONE…

It was on Guy Fawkes’ Night almost six years’ ago that an imaginative addition to Ruddington kids’ social scene first lit up children’s faces in our village. On November 5th 2014 a new soft play centre called ‘Dizzy Rascalz’ opened its doors on Brookside Road and became an instant hit with youngsters and their parents. In March 2020, however, like so many other businesses, it was forced to close temporarily due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Now the owners have decided the knock-on effect of the ‘lockdown’ – plus new operating restrictions and guidelines…
