Rushcliffe Borough Council has launched a new survey asking if locals and visitors would like to see a dedicated café at Ruddington’s Country Park. It wants you to have YOUR say on whether you think it’s a good idea – AND whether you’d use it?
Since 2015 the council has been working with Friends of Rushcliffe Country Park (FoRCP), Franklin Ellis Architects and The University of Nottingham on a proposal to refurbish and upgrade the existing building – and perhaps to extend it to create a permanent new café. This follows a previous public consultation by Friends of Rushcliffe Country Park held there last September to garner views on expanding facilities there.
The Rushcliffe online consultation asks just fourteen multiple choice questions about our Country Park and its Visitor Centre and takes only a couple of minutes to complete. So you’re urged to have YOUR say before the 31st of July >>HERE<<.
FoRCP group volunteers already run a popular café in the Education Centre every fortnight – on alternate Sundays and Wednesday mornings – with occasional extra cafés also being put on there by other fundraising groups (see our Events Diary). But, as park visitor numbers continue to rise, it’s thought a full time café may be sustainable, even open on a year round basis. However, at this stage, there is no funding in place and so they would welcome assistance from anyone with relevant expertise who would be willing to get involved in the project. In particular they are looking for advice on quantity surveying, structural engineering, construction and help to draw up a business plan.
FoRCP adds: “We hope this project will be an exemplar for sustainable building design and renewable technologies. To that end the University of Nottingham have been – and will continue to – advise on the design, materials and building techniques to ensure we create a building with a minimal carbon footprint.”
