After almost four months of being shut due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic, as UK Government restrictions continue to be eased, Ruddington Library is reopening its doors this week. The sudden closure on March 21st not only halted its loans and reference services but also caused the cancellation of special events, such as Henry Normal‘s planned appearance, and halted numerous village classes and group sessions which usually happen in the building on a monthly basis. Whilst some activities and usual facilities will take a while to return, Nottinghamshire County Council’s Libraries…

Ruddington Library Could Reopen in July
As COVID-19 Coronavirus loomed large in the UK during March 2020, one of the many village facilities suddenly closed down was Ruddington Library. This not only stopped dead its loans and reference services but also caused the cancellation of special events (Henry Normal was due to visit!) and halted numerous classes and group activities which usually happen there on a monthly bass. The building has not been used since. Nine weeks later, it’s been announced by Nottinghamshire County Council’s Libraries and Archive Services, managed by Inspire Culture, that plans are now…

Ruddington Library is changing its opening times from the start of September. However, the good news is that the total number of hours it’s open for visitors remains the same. Inspire, which now runs the library for Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC), says the new opening hours follow “…a detailed review of current opening times and usage along with local knowledge and customer feedback”. Our village library is no longer closed for lunch on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday but opens half an hour later each morning instead. It then closes half…

A village mum has come up with a groundbreaking initiative to help both the environment and low income families in our village – the Ruddington Children’s Clothing Library. After first doing a bit of market testing via Ruddington Mums, Sally Dyson launched her new library last month – and is now hoping to spread the word about it even further. The library loans out children’s clothes for a fixed period of time, on payment of a refundable deposit. There is no fee for borrowing clothes and the deposit is then repaid…

The annual “Summer Reading Challenge” is taking place during the school holidays at Ruddington Library – and it starts TODAY. The initiative, run by The Reading Agency, is aimed at 4 to 11 year-olds. The challenge is to read six or more library books between now and September 9th. It’s hoped that children who take part will become more enthusiastic about reading, maintain their reading level over the holidays and return to school keen and ready to learn. It’s also claimed that the initiative will boost their confidence and self-esteem. Each year’s challenge has a different theme.…

Ruddington Library is reopening on schedule this weekend, following its refurbishment, and villagers should notice a rather contemporary restyling – INSIDE at least! It’s taken almost two months to complete the makeover, but Inspire, which runs the library on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, hopes that users will be pleased by the upgrades. There was always going to be a limit as to what could be achieved externally, with this ageing building’s rather unattractive, flat-roofed, sixties’ design. Light grey window panels instead of the former maroon coloured ones are the only obvious…

…but thankfully it’s only temporary! Our library, on Church Street, is shutting its doors after this weekend for a TWO MONTH refurbishment. It will close at 1pm on Saturday (23rd December) and not re-open again until 9am on Saturday 17th February 2018. Inspire, which runs Ruddington Library on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, explains: “We’ll be developing an inviting and modern space for reading, learning, and cultural and community activities. Changes to the library will include an inviting modern layout and extensive re-decoration, new shelving, essential electrical work, new flooring…
