Allotment holders at Hareham Gardens in Ruddington are celebrating the completion of their new footbridge. It spans a brook and provides a step-free route between the two halves of the site – which houses a total of 62 plots. It needed to be suitable for wheelchair users – whilst the adults with learning difficulties who are supported by the THERA Trust to grow crops on one of the plots needed safe access to get between the car park and their plot. Green Light for New Footbridge
Trustees at Hareham Gardens Allotments have received the go-ahead to build a new bridge across their brook. It’s welcome news for the many gardeners who use it, since the current wooden bridge linking the 62 plots (pictured above with Plot 4 in the background) has begun to rot, leading to fears it may soon become unsafe. It’s set to be replaced with a ‘long-life’ concrete bridge.
