We’d expect no less from our nationally famous Ruddington Yarn Bombers than to adorn our village in amazing, festive style at this time of year.
However, the Yarn Ninjas’ Christmas creations this time around have surpassed even previous standards – including giving the kids something fun to do between now and the end of this month. Called the ‘Pesky Penguins Trail’, youngsters are invited to see how many of the little black and white knitted birds – in various attire – they can find lurking in different locations around Ruddington.
Ninja Katie Goy advises: “Pick up a free trail sheet from The Bottle Top, Framework Knitters’ Museum, Parker’s Yard or Thomas James Estate Agents and then collect either a sweet or badge (depending on availability) when you have completed it. Also share pictures of you with one of the penguins on our Facebook or our Instagram to enter a draw to win your very own pesky penguin!” The deadline is December 31st.
Penguins also feature on this year’s Church Street postbox topper, outside the Co-op {photos right and top courtesy of Katie Goy and the Ruddington Yarn Bombers}.
Among the other knitted decorations for Christmas 2023, you may have noticed the brand new festive display outside the Parish Council building. “Back at the start of the summer, Ruddington Village Community Partnership approached the Rudd Yarn Ninjas to discuss the possibility of a collaboration for the Christmas display outside of St Peter’s Rooms” explains Katie. “Of course the Ninjas said ‘yes’! They got to work right away on designing, sourcing materials, contacting makers, growers and artists, as well as knitting and crocheting. Many hours of crocheting, knitting, sewing, carpentry, spray painting, tree pruning and potting, light arranging and installation later, they are proud to present Ruddington’s Winter Wonderland!!”
Katie adds: “Rudd Yarn Ninjas would like to thank Springdale Farm, East Bridgford for donating the trees and local graffiti artist Ainsley Burton for his help with painting and donating paint.”
