No Flawforth Lane Closure Just Yet

A seven week closure of one of Ruddington’s key access routes is now set to happen at the end of July.

Original information from Nottinghamshire Count Council given to roadworks.org indicated that the rescheduled major works along Flawforth Lane would be taking place from next week – Monday the 5th of June until Friday the 28th of July. However an enquiry from Ruddington Parish Council on behalf of RUDDINGTON.info has ascertained that the planned dates are now Monday 24th July to Friday 1st September 2017.

Originally the closure was due to start in early February this year but the improvements were put on hold until roadworks nearby on the A52 and the delayed “Tavern Island” roundabout construction in Ruddington were completed. Another schedule in March and April was then proposed – and withdrawn – then the June & July dates listed – and withdrawn – before their latest plan was announced!

When this closure DOES happen it’s likely to cause quite major disruption for village residents and commuters. Flawforth Lane is set to be be shut to through traffic for seven weeks from the 24th of July along 200 metres from the Flawford Churchyard corner up to the Wheatcroft roundabout due to Nottinghamshire County Council Highways improvement work. This will involve the installation of a stormwater outfall along Flawforth Lane and an outfall into the drainage ditch.

Although it’s not officially a major route to and from our village it certainly is a popular shortcut, particularly at peak times, so it will inevitably cause more hold-ups for drivers. During the closure period there will only be emergency access to this part of Flawforth Lane and motorists who would normally drive that way from the Loughborough Road/Kirk Lane traffic lights to the roundabout will instead be diverted along the A60, via The Nottingham Knight roundabout, onto the A52 instead – and vice versa.

Meantime, however, unspecified work by NCC Highways is taking place on St John’s Road from Thursday 1st of June until Wednesday 28th June. This is quite a popular cut-through from Wilford Road to Loughborough Road (see map below) but is unlikely to cause traffic issues, other than for local residents.

No bus routes will be directly affected by either of these closures – though some delays to our services using Loughborough Road during the Flawforth Lane closure are likely.

We’ll keep you posted about any further changes!
