Ruddington’s Framework Knitters’ Museum is celebrating its long-standing textile artist and technical demonstrator, Helen Brownett, by presenting her with an achievement award for International Women’s Day, which is TODAY (Wednesday 8th March 2023).
The accolade is in recognition of Helen’s 28 years of service here, inspiring thousands of visitors and encouraging many to become interested in knitting on the museum’s hand powered ‘Griswold’ machines. Helen is best known for her elaborate ‘office’; which is filled with hundreds of yarns of wool, creating a unique and vibrant workspace!
Museum manager Sarah Godfrey says: “Helen’s commitment to the museum and her skills as an artist are just unbelievable, she has inspired so many people through her passion and love for framework knitting. She arguably has the most bonkers and enviable office in the country, which is quite rare to see these days. From all the staff, volunteers and trustees, we’d like to say thank you to Helen for all her years of commitment to craft and what better way than to show our appreciation than with this award on International Women’s Day!”
The Framework Knitters’ Museum on Chapel Street is currently open Wednesday to Saturday between 11am – 4pm. From Sunday 2nd April (and throughout the summer) it will also be open on Sundays from 1pm – 4pm. Its Parker’s Yard shop and cafe opening times are Wednesday to Saturday from 9.30am to 4.30pm and Sunday 11.30am to 4.30pm throughout the year.
