Visitors who travel to Ruddington’s country park by car are being warned about substantial increases to the parking charges there this month.
Following removal of the previous £1 all-day rate, from Wednesday 1st May 2024 those using the official parking at Rushcliffe Country Park now have to pay £1.50 to stay up to three hours and £3 hours to stay any longer than that. That’s a rise of 50% and 300% respectively on the previous tariff. The cost of the annual car parking permit, for frequent park users, has also shot up to £55.
A Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) spokesperson says: “This is the first increase in seven years and the Council has sustained the increase in costs in operating car parks for a considerable period. The new tariffs are still competitive when compared with other busy towns and cities in the region.”
Until June 2017, visitors could actually park at Rushcliffe Country Park for free – with the fee only a “suggested” £1 donation.
RBC’s statement adds: “Any charges at car parks are re-invested back into facilities that ensure they are safe and attractive with maintenance on lighting, resurfacing, ticket machines and improvements such as the highly popular RingGo service and electric charging points.”
RBC also points out that part of this ongoing investment means the majority of its car parks, including those over in West Bridgford also subject to a May 1st price increase, are regularly awarded the ‘Safer Car Park’ accreditation.
