Ab Fab Wacky Race for Charity

A woman from Ruddington is to set to be part of an outrageous 36 hour road trip in high heels, too much lippy and a boot full of Bollinger – dressed as Patsy from TV’s Absolutely Fabulous!

Michelle Aitken (pictured centre “swigging” from the champagne bottle) is being joined by Boo Somers (as Edina) and Tina Rawlins (as PR assistant Bubbles) to flirt, swear and (fake) chain-smoke their way to Le Touquet in northern France.

The trio are taking part in The EFTC Grand(ish) Tour from Nottingham, to Le Touquet, then back to London on May 18th & 19th – along with other wacky themed teams from Nottingham and beyond – raising funds for Nottingham-based charity Education For The Children.

EFTC is an international NGO that works in partnership with disadvantaged families, children and young adults in Guatemala, Central America. Their “School of Hope” is located in Jocotenango, Guatemala: an urban area where extreme poverty, gang crime, domestic violence and alcoholism are everyday realities. Food, healthcare, counselling and career guidance at the school aim to remove obstacles to education and so enable the students to realise their potential. (You can watch a video below.)

EFTC Publicity officer Jane Wallace told RUDDINGTON.info “Michelle has supported us for many years and has travelled out to our school in the impoverished Guatemalan ganglands to assist with training and fundraising. She is truly inspirational. But we desperately need some sponsors!”  They’re hoping both Ruddington residents and businesses will be able and willing to sponsor and support their road trip. The “Tour” is a scavenger hunt in which fancy-dressed teams driving pimped up old wrecks search for various items en route and then compete in some crazy driving challenges at the Abbeville circuit in northern France.

“I don’t know what they will make of us on the other side of The Channel,” said Patsy / Michelle, who is a trustee of the EFTC charity and has made four visits in recent years to help out at its School of Hope in Guatemala. “I’ve previously done sponsored cycle rides and volcano climbs to raise funds, but this one is totally crazy. We are trying to get sponsorship from PR firms, Bollinger and anyone else who would like to advertise on our ‘Bollimobile’. If anyone is interested please do get in touch via emma@eftc.org.uk, it really would be ‘absolutely fabulous’ to attract more Nottinghamshire supporters.”

Good luck to Michelle Aitken and her wacky team!
