Ruddington Bus Operator Breaks Records

Ruddington’s main bus operator had a day to remember at this year’s UK Bus Awards ceremony as it took home the awards for both Top City Operator and UK Bus Operator of the Year.

Securing ‘UK Bus Operator 2016’ means that Nottingham City Transport has set a new record, being the very first to win the accolade four times following successes in 2004, 2012 and 2014.

This year, the annual UK Bus Awards marks its 21st year of recognising and rewarding the many achievements across the bus industry. Today’s winners were announced at a star-studded ceremony at the Ballroom on London’s South Bank.

‘City Operator’ is open to all bus operators working ‘wholly or mainly in major cities’, while UK Bus Operator of the Year recognises the ‘creme-de-la-creme’ when it comes to customer service, with the winner chosen from ‘the highest-scoring contestants of the Independent Operator, Shire Operator and City Operator awards’.

Mark Fowles, Managing Director at Nottingham City Transport, is delighted with the news that NCT has managed to set a new record for both the company and Nottingham.

“This is fantastic news for the business and a testament to the hard work of our employees that we have managed to secure UK Bus Operator of the Year for a record-breaking fourth time” said Mark.

He continued “The competition was tighter than ever this year, with the bar set very high in terms of the standards required. Assessments are carried out in secret, so the nature of this award means that we are clearly delivering exceptional customer service on a consistent basis to the people of Nottingham, and we will continue to do so on the back of this magnificent achievement”.

Nottingham City Transport saw off tough competition to land its fourth UK Bus Operator of the Year award, with Reading Buses and Prentice Coaches among several pushing them hard all the way. Earlier in 2016, it was announced that NCT passengers were the most satisfied in the UK, scoring a 97% satisfaction score in the Transport Focus survey. This clearly struck a chord with the judges and ultimately went a long way to securing the title for Nottingham City Transport.

Tony Depledge, chairman of the UK Bus Awards, praised the quality and range of all the finalists. “Once again, our winners are a credit to the industry,” he commented, adding: “The UK Bus Awards are all about celebrating innovation, talent and good ideas, so it was a real pleasure to be able to recognise and reward the huge commitment and sheer hard work everybody has put in”.

NCT runs the two main bus routes serving Ruddington – the Navy 3 and Green 10.  For the first time this year the company also launched an innovative “Ruddy Good Day Out” campaign with RUDDINGTON.info.  This initiative continues by social media, this web site and a specially produced free booklet encouraging visitors to explore our village by bus.
