Nottingham City Transport (NCT) is celebrating after being short-listed for 4 UK Bus Awards, including ‘City Operator of the Year’, which could see the company crowned the best bus operator in the UK for a record breaking fifth time!
NCT, which runs Ruddington’s Navy 3 and Green 10 services has been shortlisted for:
- Engineer of the Year: Jake Moore
- Unsung Hero: Sheila Swift
- Top National Driver: Jatinder Kumar
- City Operator of the Year
Last year, Aaron Johnson was crowned Top National Bus Driver, NCT won City Operator of the Year and also won the Environment Award for its investment in reducing emissions through fleet upgrades and introducing the largest fleet of bio-gas double decks in the world.
Mark Yexley, Chairman of the UK Bus Awards, said: “Reaching the finals is a success in itself, and for Nottingham City Transport to be nominated in four categories is something the whole team should be really proud. To be up there as one of the best bus companies in the country is a remarkable achievement. It’s an honour to be able to recognise individual employees too. We wish Sheila, Jake and Jatinder, and the whole team the very best of luck!”
NCT’s current Driver of the Year and now Top National Driver nominee, Jatinder is a very popular and friendly driver on the Lilac Line buses to Carlton, Westdale Lane and Arnold. He has an exemplary employment record throughout his 11 years driving buses for NCT and has numerous commendations on his file.
Unsung Hero nominee Sheila’s love, commitment and dedication to NCT over nearly 4 decades is unquestionable. Joining City of Nottingham Transport in 1981 as a short-hand typist, Sheila has progressed to be Nottingham City Transport’s HR Admin Manager, where she has responsibility for recruitment, making sure NCT’s rules, policies and procedures are followed, delivering many HR projects and GDPR compliance.
Jake Moore’s shortlisting for Engineer of the Year recognises how he stands out as an impressive, hands on engineer who has quickly made his mark on improving the performance of the company’s Trent Bridge Garage, ensuring over 9.3m passengers each year receive a punctual and safe service. His colleagues and Line Manager sum up his achievements and approach best by coining the phrase “every workshop needs a Jake!”
NCT’s City Operator of the Year short-listing comes as the Company completes its investment in the largest fleet of bio-gas double deck buses in the world, with 120 in service, including Ruddington’s Green 10 buses. It’s after a record breaking two year £42m investment in its fleet and infrastructure. Against English bus patronage outside London continuing to fall, NCT achieved commercial patronage growth of 1.3% with more people using its buses. Customers were also more satisfied, with NCT achieving 10 year high customer satisfaction scores across 17 service features measured in 2018.
A win for City Operator of the Year could see NCT win UK Bus Operator of the Year for a record breaking fifth time.
Mark Fowles, NCT’s Managing Director commented: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for four UK Bus Awards, and our shortlisting for City Operator of the Year recognises the work Nottingham City Transport does to provide a high quality, low emission bus service for the City, which is carrying more people. This can only be achieved thanks to the dedication, loyalty and professionalism of our employees and it is fantastic to see three NCT employees shortlisted for awards this year”.
The UK Bus Awards Finalists Announcement takes place on Tuesday 19th November at Troxy in London.
