New Roundabout Delayed!

It’s emerged that work to build Ruddington’s new roundabout was halted just days before it was due to begin because of a failure to consult properly with affected properties.

Clifton Road before roundaboutConstruction was due to start today (Tuesday 26th July) at the Wilford Road/Clifton Road junction and should have been completed by the end of August.

However Nottinghamshire County Council has now belatedly issued a consultation document to explain its proposals to “ensure the safe operation of the junction”.  These include new double yellow lines in front of the Victoria Tavern Inn and adjacent houses on Wilford Road – and also the extension of double yellow lines in front of Victoria Court on Clifton Road.

Additionally it is also proposed to convert the bus stop on Clifton Road into a Bus Stop Clearway where stopping by all vehicles, except buses, will be prevented at all times. You can view all the documents HERE.Roundabout planning map

Those against the plans include landlady of  The Vic, Lindsey Flint, who commented recently on Facebook: “Given that we are not allowed to park at the rear of our premises – and will then lose the few spaces at the front – will arrangements be made to allow us as residents, NOT my customers, to be able to park elsewhere?”

It was hoped the change from a T-junction to a mini-roundabout would alleviate the current delays for traffic turning on to Wilford Road from Clifton Road at peak times. This was to be funded by Bellway Homes as part of their Section 106 agreement after being granted planning permission for further new housing along Pasture Lane. However it is now unlikely roundabout construction will begin until after the summer holidays since a four week consultation period has only just started – and any work will depend on the outcome.

Written objections by letter or email to tmconsultation@viaem.co.uk (stating grounds and quoting ref: 8248) are being invited.  These must be received by the 19th August 2016.  You can also comment via the County Council’s website HERE.

Certainly the “rural” feel of Ruddington is unlikely to be enhanced by this latest new road layout to cope with the ever increasing volumes of traffic passing through our village.  So please make sure to have your say.
